I love that 4th of July is on a Tuesday, because it means the weekend is looooong. I feel like doing all the summer things!
A trip to the 90210 Beach House for a long walk with Julius…
…endless Turkey Sandwiches because it’s too hot to cook (Trader Joe’s makes a pretty decent gluten-free bread)…
…and a couple meals out. We happened upon this lovely place Winsome in Echo Park last night to celebrate Sam’s birthday. Highly recommend the Maitake Mushrooms and Sauteed Greens and an order of their housemade Kennebec Potato Chips with kaffir lime. I had a couple bites of those shared sides with an order of Mussels, swimming in green curry coconut milk.
Ice cream, of course! This is organic soft serve from the newly opened Korean chain Bumsan Organic Milk Bar. They don’t have cups yet so I had to use chopsticks from a place next door to dig all the yumminess out of my cone. They officially open on July 7th (534 South Western Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90020) with free cones from 3pm to 5pm!
We’ve also seen two movies which did not disappoint – The Big Sick + The Beguiled. I don’t think there will be a traditional BBQ happening tomorrow, probably more of the above. Have a great 4th of July!
P.S. I’ll be speaking on a panel on Saturday July 8th in DTLA at the first Taiwanese American Film Festival – come say hi!
