Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns comes to Los Angeles at Descanso Gardens. A family friendly Halloween event.
Looking for something to do that’s Halloween-y? Can’t handle events like Horror Night at Universal Studios (like me)? Then Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns is definitely for wimps like us. Buy tickets beforehand, park (for free!) show up during your time slot, and walk through Descanso Gardens.
Over 5000 hand-carved pumpkins are on display, reflecting themes for everyone.
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Pumpkin! So meta.
Alien Pumpkins – Invasion of the Jack O’Lanterns!
This pumpkin makes me want to play Mario Kart.
The Wizard of Oz with the Emerald City! I feel like a kid looking at this, in total awe.
One of my favorite directors of all time, Alfred Hitchcock.
There are souvenir and food stands at the event. I did not spot any pumpkin pie on the menu, which I think is a missed opportunity. However, there are plenty of Halloween treats for sale in case you get hungry – like these tombstone and ghost cookies.
The Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns runs through early November this year. And, there is also one in New York City – its at Old Westbury Gardens. More info about The Rise and their Halloween pumpkin carvings at their website.
