Zebra Herbivore

movies - salads - snacks

After yesterday’s blogger meetup I plopped onto the couch and stayed there the rest of the night. Felt icky, but not too ill to consume the leftover Scallop and Shrimp Salad.

Not surprisingly, this was not terrific after a day in the fridge – all the fried seafood and crispy potatoes went limp but the veggies somehow stayed in tact, despite being coated in dressing. I added an additional handful of baby spinach to sop up the excess and bring it all back to life.

For dessert Abe and I shared one of the snacks from my SDAFF SWAG bag.

I’ve been eating these Yan Yan since I can remember. You start of with an educational biscuit

…and dip it into the frosting compartment (this was the strawberry flavor)

The perfect snack to watch my Japanese-themed movie, “White on Rice,” with! The DVD just arrived on Netflix, and it has a lot of cool bonus features – commentary, behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, and more!

I got all meta and took a picture of me getting my picture taken in the movie:

Of course, my food choices were not the best for my body and I wound up feeling sicker as the evening went on. Do as I say, not as I do, people!

But DO watch “White on Rice.” That part was fun!

P.S. – My NCIS:LA episode airs tonight.  That is, if I didn’t get cut!  I have two very short scenes and I’m wearing scrubs.

P.P.S. – There’s a terrific Living Social deal today for a 75-minute massage at Healing Hands for $35!!!  I’ve never been to this location, but I go to the one on Larchmont all the time and LOVE IT.

Green Eggs (No Ham)

I can’t believe it’s almost the end of October! I was long overdue for my recurring massage, which I usually get at the beginning of every month.

I had a Living Social deal for 50% off an Hour Long Massage at Thai Sabai in Hollywood. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Thai massage, it involves a lot of guided stretching, being stood on…it’s more “work” than a “normal” straight-up relaxing one.

When I first moved to L.A. I used to go here a lot, but have since found other massage places that are much more pampering for the same price. Thai Sabai is less private, a little rushed (my masseuse was a bit gruff and disconnected) and I don’t like that it’s on the floor instead of a table (where my face is smooshed into a pillow, rather than supported in a head rest).

Still, you get to wear that cute little outfit! And with the Living Social deal, the whole thing cost about $30, with tip. For that price, I’ll just suck up the lack of privacy/comfort and shower off all the cheap baby oil they slather on.

That’s exactly what I did the second I got home; then made myself an early dinner.

Scrambled up an egg (splash of water, s + p) with some scallions…

…and made a quick salad with organic baby spinach, frozen bell peppers/asparagus…

Tossed in the best Olive Oil and Vinegar combo ever – some Olinda Ridge Lemon EVOO (they sent a bunch of free samples) + Traditional Aceto Balsamico

Salad n Eggs

Somehow, they wound up in the same bowl. So typical of me.

Lately, my nausea has been kicking in at night. It’s a very particular kind of sick feeling, where I feel like I want to eat something but am not hungry, and crave very specific things.

Like just a smidge of Instant Oatmeal Bread

…mostly, I wanted to crunch on a pear.

And right before bed, something ice cold and refreshing. Frozen grapes were perfect.

If you’re in Philly (like my phamily) “The People I’ve Slept With” is closing the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival this Sunday night. Unfortunately, I’ll be presenting at the San Diego Asian Film Festival Gala so I can’t be there. But even if you can’t make the screening, the movie will be airing on TV starting this Sunday!!!

Seize the Sunny Moment

It’s been raining the last few days in L.A. (with no signs of stopping) so when the skies got sunny this morning, I jumped out of bed and grabbed the opportunity for a walk.

Doesn’t it look like Julius is some holy beast? He’s glowing!

For breakfast, I broke into one of the new cereals that Attune Foods sent.

They’re very similar to the Original Uncle Sam, but sweetened, with a few additions

I had about 1/2 a cup of the Honey Almond with a handful of Marshmallow Oaties

Plus organic skim milk

Two hours later I was ready for lunch. Ding donged 2 sweet potatoes on high for about 3-4 minutes (turning once)

Smushed in a dollop of Better Than Cream Cheese

For the toppings, I started to microwave some frozen shitakes and broccoli. While those were working, I heated up some veggie bacon and scallions in a cast iron skillet…

…then added the broccoli/shrooms and seasoned with Garlic Gold Parm Nuggets, S + P.

Finally, a sprinkle of Gerb’s Toasted Garlic and Onion Pumpkin Seeds:

I’ve never had a vegan stuffed potato before and this was pretty yummy – took less than 10 minutes too.

It just got sunny out again! Maybe I need to take advantage with another walk….
