Tart Restaurant

brunch - lunch - restaurant - salads

I drive by Tart several times a week, but never stepped inside until yesterday…

DSCN3468

…so glad I did!

Sat outside on the porch…

…and looked over the menu while sipping on beverages. They make their own Craft Sodas – Lemon-Lavender, Strawberry-Yuzu, and Sour Pineapple.

Brunch all day!!! Until dinner, that is.

DSCN3471

This was one of several media preview meals this week, so I did my best to ignore the Biscuits/Waffles/Grits and ordered a Kale Salad with Chicken…

…which was utterly fabulous….

…as were the fried brussels sprouts. You can get them in sandwich form, too.

I did sneak a bite of my host Andrew’s BTA Benedict – Poached eggs on top of Applewood Smoked Bacon, Tomato, Avocado, and Hollandaise.

One (or two) bites of dessert – Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding…

…Nutella, banana brûlée, and marshmallow ice cream.

Tart is a total gem – I always thought of it as merely a hotel restaurant, since it’s attached to The Farmer’s Daughter (<—next blog post) – but it’s a charming and delicious alternative to The Farmer’s Market/Grove across the street.

Bow and Truss

dessert - dinner - restaurant - vegetarian

We headed to the Valley mid-week to celebrate our friend Erin’s birthday.

DSCN3243

Bow and Truss is a stunning space…

DSCN3244

…with beautiful food. We ordered a bunch to share – I didn’t snap too many pix because there was a large group waiting to eat…

…but I will say that this (blurry) Fig Bread…

…served with a fig balsamic reduction/blue cheese butter is a must!

DSCN3252

Also note-worthy – the paella. They have several variations; we got two vegetarian ones.

Dessert came from Republic of Pie, next door…

BANANAS! Literally.

A Tale of Two Bread Puddings

baking - dessert - gluten free - recipe - trader joe's

For Friday’s Ladies’ Night, I made two different types of bread pudding.

DSCN0627

One utilizing La Brea Bakery’s classic Chocolate Sour Cherry…

…and the other was a Gluten-Free Version, finishing up a bag of white bread.

DSCN0657

Both were dairy free.

DSCN0695

I used Nourishing Joy’s Slow Cooker Bread Pudding recipe (subbing coconut milk and adding chocolate)…

DSCN0703

…and baked the Gluten-Free Version, following my own formula (replacing the chocolate with raisins).

DSCN0720

I also swapped out 1/4 cup of the sugar for Dulce De Leche (<—another recipe to come)…

DSCN0721

…and sprinkled this Bourbon Smoked Sugar on top (a birthday gift from Joy while she was in Kentucky, doing Our Town).

DSCN0706

DSCN0709

Pretty, they are not…

DSCN0717

DSCN0731

…but man are they tasty!  I think I prefer my bread pudding crispy – the crockpot results in a more flan-like texture.
