Manhattan Beach Creamery

bakeries/cafes/dessert places

Excuse me, how is it already Thursday?!?  If you follow my personal accounts on Instagram/Twitter you’ll see I’ve been pretty busy with work, and am still catching up from Labor Day Weekend – part of which was spent in Manhattan Beach.

Julius joined us for the trip…

IMG_6889

…really wanted MB Post, but we went to Manhattan Beach Creamery so they could sit in these crazy chairs outside.

A lot going on inside the store too!

IMG_6880

The cupcakes

…and Creamwich Cookie Sandwiches looked incredible.

IMG_6886

I got us some Ice Cream (Heath Bar with Coffee)…

IMG_6891

…and Banana Frozen Yogurt.

IMG_6893

Afterwards we took a walk all the way to Hermosa Beach, where I recognized this place from far away…

…if you were as obsessed with the show as I was, this exterior shot needs no introduction.

More Sun More Cafe

dessert - dinner - gluten free - restaurant - salads - sandwich - vegan

SunCafe Organic is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Los Angeles.  They moved, but just up the street…

DSCN4336

…to a bigger space with valet parking (free if you’re picking up for takeout)…

DSCN4341

…and a patio.

DSCN4340

Dogs welcome!

DSCN4348

My favorite vegetarian was my date, of course.

DSCN4359

I didn’t have any of the alcoholic stuff…

DSCN4394

…but did partake of Grapefruit Sage Kombucha on tap.

DSCN4363

(Abe was quite pleased with the craft beers and specialty cocktails.)

DSCN4367

Here’s what we ate!

DSCN4355

Raw pizza (above) on a Gluten-Free Rice Flour Crust and Sun Nachos on baked blue corn chips (they’ve also got raw ones)…

DSCN4372

…The Kale Colossus…

…which included bananas!

DSCN4375

Naners made an additional appearance in this stellar Tahitian Vanilla Shake…

DSCN4411

…served with a piping hot, Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie.

DSCN4405

All the food was, as usual, wonderful and plentiful!  We wound up taking our entrees home as leftovers…

…Raw Pad Thai (above) made from Golden Beet Noodles, and the Sun Burger on a Fluffy Whole Wheat Bun.

This meal was hosted.  Check out the full menu at the SunCafe Organic Website; follow them on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter.

M.B. Post

brunch - restaurant - salads - vegetarian

For the last few years, every time I’ve met somebody from Manhattan Beach, I’ll pick their brain about M.B. Post

DSCN3580

…known as one of the best vegetarian-friendly restaurants – but since it’s not exactly around the corner from me, I couldn’t bring myself to drive down “just to see” – until they lured me with an invitation.

DSCN3572

I met David LeFevre at The Taste last summer, and knew the chef-driven/seasonal menu would be something special…

DSCN3582

…we were seriously blown away!

Sticky Buns with Pecan and Brown Sugar…

…and a Breakfast Sandwich (sans Sausage) – English Muffin, Calabrian Peppers, Fontina, Tomato + a brilliant yellow egg scramble.

DSCN3625

DSCN3622

We came during Sunday brunch, so there weren’t too many “lunch” options – Chopped Salad of Baby Artichokes, Chickpeas, Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Parmesan…

DSCN3620

(Salami on the Side for me)

…and a Burrata/Roasted Pepper Sandwich with Green Olive Pesto on a Pretzel Roll…

DSCN3632

Not normally served til dinner, the kitchen hooked us up with their infamous Brussels Sprouts – which I’ve seen featured on Cooking Channel’s Unique Eats…

DSCN3642

…roasted to perfection with emmental, hazelnuts, and fried sage.

DSCN3640

DSCN3649

The only thing Abe couldn’t eat is the one that’s been haunting my dreams…

DSCN3592

…Bacon and Cheddar Biscuits with Maple Butter. I wondered if it would be overkill, but it’s not. It’s everything a biscuit should be.

DSCN3598

Almost everything above was boxed/taken home but we couldn’t stop our spoons once they dug into dessert…

DSCN3662

…”The Elvis” – Chocolate Pudding, Peanut Butter Mousse, Bruleed Bananas…

DSCN3658

…and Bacon Brittle.

DSCN3666

Absolutely worth the drive. Even the traffic.  Not one thing was less than extraordinary, and the service couldn’t have been friendlier/on point, despite a crazy brunch crowd. We’ll definitely be back!
