I’m currently in New York City visiting family and shooting a few film videos. Last night I found out that I won the Best Actor award for Parachute Girls at NBC U Shorts Fest! The second I get back to Los Angeles I have to take my co-star/writer/producer Emily Chang and her husband, our director Alex Rubens to dinner and celebrate. I’m thinking Citizen Restaurant might be a good place.
The decor is all 50’s-70’s inspired, with carpeting on the walls, wood murals, macrame everywhere…
…and the food is a modern spin on classic comfort food. They make some of the best biscuits in Los Angeles – don’t sit down without ordering those. The waitress convinces us to get another appetizer (these roast grapes with burrata) but honestly I think the biscuits are enough.
Our dinner date Geeta Patel (director of the hilarious documentary Meet the Patels) is also vegetarian like Abe so we steer clear of the raw seafood bar, Prime Dry Aged NY Steak and Smoked Short Rib Tacos.
A chopped salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, and cheese…
…a rich mushroom risotto…
…and a homemade pasta with tomato sauce.
We skip on dessert but I am curious to try their Root Beer Float with Warm Anise Cookies.
