A casual dinner with friends at a NYC Classic, Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop in the Flatiron District.
We are staying in New York City and taking the opportunity to have dinner with our good friends Nate Smith and Jess Krause. The first thing I want to do is check out By Chloe, which is near our hotel. But the line is out the door! We wander around the Flatiron District, none of us knowing where to eat, and I announce, “I just want to eat at a good old NYC Diner. Or a Jewish Deli.” We look east, and there it is: Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop.
The place is perfect – from the stools to the menu. I feel like I’m constantly eating at trendy new places built for Instagram photos; this is exactly where I want to eat with some of our oldest friends.
There are a lot of breakfast foods on the menu – which Nate/Jess order. And the friendly waitress tells us the special is the pastrami. But since I’m going to be on camera the next day for Cooking Channel’s Unique Sweets, I want to avoid puffiness and steer clear of too much salt. I ask for a Grilled Chicken Salad with oil/vinegar on the side. Abe gets an Egg Salad, on toasted Rye Bread. Both are just okay, but we aren’t expecting much. Those pickles tho.
