The day before Thanksgiving I find myself at Rudy’s Barbershop, in Blair’s Chair, ready to get a trim. Then, somehow talk myself into a shoulder-length chop. A lob haircut, they call it – a long bob cut. It is something I have never even heard of before today! After the initial shock wears off (all I can see is a pre-teen version of myself staring back) I go home, put on makeup, curl my locks, and style them.
My long hair was a place I could hide. It made me feel safe. I could throw it up in a messy bun.
This lob haircut requires maintenance. Care. Uh…adult things. But now, I kinda love it.
I pretty much only like it curly right now. Seeing my stick-straight ends kinda reminds me of looking at the bottom of a broom. Lucky for me, a bunch of Bumble and Bumble samples landed in my lap. (Quite literally.)
These heat protectants (BB Repair + Invisible Oil Primer) make me feel less guilty using the iron.
Surf Spray lifts everything up and BB Thickening Dryspun Finish adds fullness. Both hold the style…
…and because I don’t want to do this every single day, their Dry Shampoo keeps things clean between washes.
I’ve pretty much had long hair my entire life. Except for this one time, at band camp, when I was not awkward at all.
I suppose now that I’m going to be 39 (in less than a month) I need to grow up a little.
