This meal is hosted.
We are invited to check out the newly opened Barrel Down in Downtown LA. It’s right across the street from Bottega Louie on 7th Street. As you can see, the sign says “beer hall” but I’m not there to drink.
The entire front of the place is completely open and pours out onto the street, which reminds me of New York City.
Abe is excited, he loves beer. He orders one from their 40 taps.
We pick all vegetarian dishes, but the menu is full of delicious-sounding meat options, like Buttermilk Fried Chicken and a dry-aged Sirloin Burger.
I am blown away by what Chef Derrick de Jesus does to simple vegetables.
BBQ Heirloom carrots glazed in honey chili, served on top of whipped yogurt…
…and Cauliflower Popcorn. These are fried/dipped into Ginger Aioli and Chili Lime Vinaigrette. And they are so addictive. I can’t stop popping them into my mouth.
The Pear and Endive Salad is vegan and super fresh…
…and the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich is actually 1.5 servings!
Roast Eggplant, Ricotta, Smashed White Beans. Perfectly toasty Multigrain Bread.
Dessert is a warm Bourbon Bread Pudding with chocolate, banana, brown sugar pecans…
…I don’t drink alcohol, but of course I devour this. It isn’t the prettiest dessert, but it’s pretty tasty.
