Lunch at the Greyhound Bar in Highland Park with comedian Jenny Yang. Burgers, cornbread, and amazing cake by Quenelle.
Return to Highland Park! I’m rarely in that ‘hood but found myself back after Sunday’s brunch. The Greyhound is a bar that opened earlier this year. I was invited to check them out.
Arrived at noon on a Monday, so no alcohol for me. Well, never alcohol for me…
…but I did find a willing partner!
Although they have plenty of beers/wine, their cocktail menu is quite extensive. Jenny Yang was brought one that was “dry and citrus, but spirit forward.” This was “La Grande Roja” – Tequila Cabez, Maestro Dobel Tequila, Aperol, Vanilla Bean Syrup, Lime, and Atomized Citrus Oil.
Now on to the part I’m interested in…
…BACON! Or, Single Malt Scotch-Cured, House-Smoked Pork Belly.
The owners have roots in the Culver City restaurant Father’s Office (which I still have yet to go to!) so of course they have a great burger…
…this one IS actually customizable, and only $8 with a beer during Happy Hour.
Vegetarians, there’s a burger on the menu for you too – I didn’t try it, but I can vouch for this perfect cornbread, a recipe from owner Mateo’s dad.
Particularly giddy about their dessert menu – featuring goodies by Quenelle.
Palm Sugar Blondie (above) and Red Velvet Cake…
…everything you want in a neighborhood bar, as far as I’m concerned.
Even though Highland Park isn’t exactly around the corner from me (and I don’t drink), I’ll definitely be back. I love the casual vibe, the food is solid, and Jenny’s a regular!
