Oh, that bread – I’ve only lived in Los Angeles for 8 years, but every one of them has involved these ubiquitous loaves.
For its 25th Anniversary, La Brea Bakery moved to a new spot up the street (Republique inhabits the old one) with a bar, beautiful wood-burning oven, and daily breakfast/lunch/dinner menu.
I came for the Grand Opening event on January 30th, to help celebrate Hourie’s new gig, and taste some of the pastries she helped develop…
…like this Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie (resting above a sausage n shroom pizza sample).
She introduced me to some La Brea Bakery classics – the Pine Nut Macaroon…
…and Italian Nut Cookie (both naturally gluten-free).
We sat and enjoyed a little salad together too – Bloomsdale Spinach, Hard Boiled Eggs, Avocado, Pancetta, Blue Potatoes, Balsamic Onions, and Green Goddess Dressing.
You can order ready-made ones to go…
…I brought home quite the goodie bag!
