What’s New Pussycat

blogging - body image/beauty - life - movies - podcast - product review - trader joe's

I feared changing the blogging format was going to be challenging, but it has been incredibly freeing. Who really wants to know that my dinner last night consisted of brown rice, Quan’s Flan, Sea Salt + Vinegar Potato Chips, Ak Mak, Jellybeans, and grapes?

Well, now you all know (oops) but really it was just an excuse to show you this photograph. I like snapping photos when I’m feeling inspired to!

Here are some other things that I’ve discovered lately worth sharing.

This lotion smells like artificial lemon cookies in the best way. Every time I slather my body with it I think, “It’s too specific.  I’m going to get sick of this.” But I don’t.  The consistency is perfect too.  Skin/Nose happy.

After the Jump is a podcast hosted by Grace Bonney of Design Sponge. I downloaded one episode 2 weeks ago and have been pounding through 57 more ever since.

Movies in theaters right now are BANANAS!  Haven’t been disappointed by any that we’ve seen so far – Saving Mr. Banks, Philomena, Wolf of Wall Street, Frozen, Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, and American Hustle (which also inspired a gel mani).

When I announced the switch, reader Anne requested that I keep doing negative Trader Joe’s reviews. So I will say that I was pretty disappointed in this product, despite having my name written all over it. In fact, I found myself pumping up the volume with ADDITIONAL miso paste until the box was done.

Also have to give a big thumbs down to the ProActiv Advanced Blemish Treatment. I was given a sample of this at the Fitness Magazine event, and it has not done diddly squat for the zit on my upper lip (or my NECK) the last couple days.

Of course, you don’t need to listen to/agree with my two cents about any of this.  Recently my hair dresser told me to deep condition my hair, section it into braids, and sleep on it wet.  I woke up looking like I stuck a bobby finger in an electrical socket (<—I know what that looks like, by the way, because I witnessed somebody do that in the theater when I was a kid.  But that’s another story).

Ha ha! Love your posts! I love how real life they are.

P.S. I use to do the braid thing when I was younger, so it looked like I had a “perm”. My mom would not let me get one, which now I am grateful for but at the time, not so much.

HA! I completely understand what you mean about fearing the specificity of something…but when it’s good, baby, it’s good. But maybe Abe wants to gnaw on your arm?

    :D

    Miss you!!

We just saw Wolf of Wall Street (and American Hustle, but I think I already told you that!) and loved it so much so that I started reading his memoir! (So far, the movie hasn’t strayed much from it.)

Biggest lie told to me as a child was that I would outgrow my acne. Liars Liars Liars! Though I use the Proactive 3-step cleaning regime with great success, I’ve found their other products lacking. I have to have some sort of antibiotic topical treatment from my Derm Dr, for outbreaks. Nothing else works.

On your blog reformat. I’m liking it too. Easier for me to keep up with the busier schedule I have these days.

Ooh I had to live with moderate acne throughout my entire teenage years and all of my 20s. Haha. I had (sometimes still!) cystic acne and the whole bit so I understand your frustration. ProActiv never worked for me as well. =/

Not sure if you’re in the market for some alternatives, but Mario Badescu’s Buffering Lotion (for cystic/under-the-skin acne) and Drying Lotion (for acne that has that ugly white bump) have helped me tremendously over the years. A little goes a long way and just a dab once a night really helped to slowly dry out the pimples. Hope this helps!

Thanks Lez – I used to use that when I lived in NYC – forgot about it!

Oh, please do tell us the story of the person who stuck a finger in the socket at the theater!

I’ll tell the story in an upcoming podcast!

I’m so glad I found you on Instagram last night! It’s been way too long, and we must catch up soon over coffee. I miss your face!

We are obsessed with the movies right now as well. I loved Wolf of Wall Street. So entertaining.

I hope you had an amazing new year, here’s to seeing more of you in 2014!

    Xo,
Erin from Live & Love L.A.
