The Gorbals

During the summer I won Ms. In the Biz’s July Mixer Giveaway – a $150 Gift Certificate to eat at The Gorbals.

I’ve sous-chefed for this restaurant before at Plate by Plate, saw Sun Sisters in the same building, and had Sam/John do a guest post about the KTCHN DTLA brunch, but this was my first time in the actual space. The staff told me it was haunted, so I needed accompaniment every time I went to the bathroom (which I did not take a picture of for my other blog).

Hopefully no ghosts pop up in these pictures.

The six of us split a bunch of meat/veggie dishes. My favorite was the broccoli – flash fried perfection.

Other veggie dishes included Roasted Corn…

…Mushrooms and Creamed Pine Nuts…

…Zucchini/Eggplant/Squash Blossoms…

…Tomato + Burrata (we got 3 orders of these).

I had just a taste of all the above, and concentrated on the meat dishes – there were four of us splitting these. Banh Mi Poutine…

…Dry Aged Burger…

…lamb neck in creamy oats…

…and bacon-wrapped matzoh balls.

I had seconds on the above, and thirds on the lamb – which got taken home and are now sitting in my freezer.

Dessert was perfection – sticky toffee pudding with homemade ice cream.

Each couple got our own.

FYI – Ms. in the Biz is having their next mixer soon – don’t know if they’ll be doing another epic giveaway like this, but follow them on twitter/facebook in case they do!

Everything looks yummy, especially the bacon wrapped matzoh balls, but isn’t that a total oxymoron of a dish?!
Lol

Yes – I believe the restaurant was inspired by this dish, which was a joke!

The sticky toffee pudding will make you believe in a higher power.
