Crossroads on Melrose

August 14, 2013

in dessert, lunch, restaurant, salads, sandwich, vegan

Across the street from where Joy and I were crowned the Queens of Cakes, there’s a newly-opened restaurant I’ve been very curious about…

…I eat at a lot of vegan places in LA, but after my dinner at Vedge in Philadelphia, I realized there aren’t many upscale ones. Crossroads finally fills that space, and as Oprah recently tweeted, it’s fantastic!

Tal Ronnen is the founder/chef – Sammy and I didn’t come for dinner, but were invited to try their new lunch menu.

At this time of day, you order at the counter, and they bring you the food…

…we split everything – starting with the Kale Salad…

…and two sandwiches – “The Caan” and “Le Prevot.”

The “cheese” was nut-based – very light and refreshing – an appropriate mozzarella substitute.

Also tried the Pasta of the Day – with “lobster” aka thinly sliced Chantarelles…

…LOVED both the sammies – and so did Sammy!

We agreed their vegan croissant was a marvel…

…and kinda reminded us of Chinese ones at 85 Degrees???

Serafina Magnussen also worked some magic on this Chocolate Ganache Tartlett…

…I was seriously enamored. The perfect sweetness/consistency, with a crunchy caramel corn and touch of heat – just a hint!

Last, but not least, two bowls of Seasonal Sorbet – Galia Melon…

…and Thomcord Grape.

Everything was wonderful – and of course, photo worthy…

…thanks to the lovely, sunny room.

Will definitely be back for dinner sometime with Abe.  And many more lunches – it’s the perfect place for a meeting!

Wow that all looks delightful! I especially think the “lobster” looked interesting. I have never been to a strictly vegan restaurant, but love all varieties of food so I think it would be fun to give it a go. We’ve started replacing two-three meal nights a week with vegetarian dishes at home simply because purchasing meat here on island is so expensive! It would be nice to go to a place like this and get new ideas for tastes/inspiration!

Perfect picture of you Lynn! You look gorgeous.

Will have to hit Crossroads the next time in back in LA!

I had no idea this restaurant even opened! I’m dying over that salad…and those sandwiches! Mmm…I’m definitely adding that to my ‘must-visit’ list!

PS: You look absolutely stunning!

When I read the title, I though you were shopping at the Crossroads Trading on Melrose. This restaurant sounds great! It is making the short list for my birthday dinner next month.
