Anyone watch Top Chef Masters? Last night was my first time experiencing Richard Sandoval’s food!

Zengo is his Latin-Asian restaurant at the top of Santa Monica Place – I was invited to try out their recently launched, limited-time menu – Test Kitchen: Hong Kong to San Juan.

FYI – they have a vegetarian and gluten-free options too.

Michelle and I started with Chicharon-Plantain Mofongo Shumai…

…with Black Vinegar + XO Sauce…

…then Adobo Sweet n Sour BBQ Pork Ribs, chayote slaw….

…and a stuffed, fried potato with bacon and jack cheese.

For the main dishes – a Whole Crispy Fried Flounder – Malanga Puree, Black Bean Vinaigrette, Watercress/Radish Salad…

…served with Chinese Broccoli, Tomatoes, and Rice Cooked in Black Beans.

oh, that looks delicious! (except for the fish.) i love when restaurants have special vegetarian menus. doesn’t happen often out here in the middle of nowhere. but it’s solved my dilemma of always being the last one to know what they want to get.
