Matthew Kenney’s M.A.K.E.

in dessert, dinner, restaurant, vegan

Between all the Nestle Crunch and McDonald’s I’ve been hoovering lately, my body needs a little break. Last night I was invited to try out Matthew Kenney’s Los Angeles restaurant, M.A.K.E. – a perfect choice, since it’s all raw!

Named one of America’s Best New Chefs by Food and Wine Magazine and nominated twice by the James Beard Foundation, I knew it was going to be a special meal. Melanie was my lucky date.

We each got our own seven-course tasting menu.

The above (along with the cheese course + dumplings) were both of our favorites from the savory dishes. And then came the sweet!

As you can see, we received (almost) everything on the dessert menu.

Such a delicious and fun evening – Melanie commented when we sat down that raw food couldn’t possibly be filling…

…boy was she wrong – we left completely stuffed, but not in the same way that McWrap + fries left me feeling. If you do go, see if manager Erin can help you navigate the menu – she’s hilarious, and a fellow actor/artist too!

Ooh, I wish I’d been your lucky date for this! I still haven’t eaten there, but I am currently on day 2 of their 3-day juice/smoothie/tea cleanse.

I’m just curious, were those super thin slices of lime on the plate with the taco? Everything looked fabulous! You & Melanie included! :)

I’ve heard so many good things about this restaurant! I rarely make it out to Santa Monica these days but I’ll have to venture in next time I’m there. The kelp pasta dish looks unbelievable!
