Eating Sour Pie

February 5, 2013

in dinner, snacks, vegetarian

Sadly, no free Yogurtland for me yesterday – when I drove by at 3:45pm, there was already a huge line with no parking spots…

…I wolfed down this emergency stash of Trail Mix in my car as a snack.

Back home a new recipe experiment…i.e. using up pantry/freezer products.

DSCN2582

Drained/rinsed the Silver Fleece Sauerkraut

DSCN2590

…chopped up two veggie dogs…

…and placed both in the frozen pie shell.

On top – two eggs, 3/4 cups Califia Farms Almondmilk, 1 TB German Mustard, S + P…

…and TJ’s Soy Cheese.

I read a lot of conflicting recipes re: frozen pie crusts. Some say you must blind bake, others say it isn’t necessary as long as you use the product straight from the freezer and/or place it on a pizza stone.

I don’t have the latter, so I utilized my reversible cast iron grill pan, covered in foil in case of spillage.

350 degrees and 45 minutes later…

…my first quiche – with no soggy bottom <—whew!

…only, it didn’t taste very egg-y. It’s all about the ‘kraut.

Abe loved it too – we wound up polishing off nearly half of it…

…and then dug into dessert over Downton Abbeycrockpot candied nuts, Gingerbread Pita Chips

…and a Caramel Ghiradelli.

For those of you in Los Angeles, my friends Brad and Mayuka are moving, and need to find a good home for their bunny Poppy. She’s almost 6-years-old, with no health problems, is potty trained, very affectionate, and as you can see, cute as can be!

I need to experiment! Your quiche does look good, so I don’t think it would hurt to just dump random fill-ins in a pie crust once in a while–definitely need to try that! :) And that bunny is so cute!

Aww! Such a cute bunny. Is it an indoor or outdoor pet? Not like I could talk my husband into it either way.

I think she’s indoors mostly but hops around in their yard too.

Oh man. I seriously am dying for an indoor pet (since we have no yard). We’re not supposed to have any, but a clandestine rabbit sounds doable. If they can’t find a home quickly for Poppy, let me know!

I hope that this doesn’t come across as weird: but I was looking at some of the sites that Jenna, of Eat Live Run, recommended for Valentines gifts. My daughter is a very imaginative five, so, of course the puppets, on from The Land of Nod site caught my attention. Look what they have though! Julius the Little Dog! Immediately made me think of you Lynn! It even looks like him. :) http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=216387&U=705044&M=13150&urllink= They also have a plushie that looks like a S’more! Okay, I feel super nerdy now. Hopefully you’ll get at a laugh out of it at least!
