So, soda cake

…unless you’re vegan, I don’t recommend serving it to guests – quite the mess (try the yogurt trick instead if you’re looking to cut out oil/eggs). So sticky, in fact, I didn’t really need to add much to the crumbs to form cake balls.

Yes, I finally tried to make Bakerella’s famous concoction.

Instead of icing, I just used some flavored strawberry cream cheese – about 1/3 of a cup.

Formed into balls…giant ones…

…frozen while we went to see Les Miserables – where this dude on The Arclight wall was eating them!

Back home, I attempted to dip them into chocolate…

…there are thousands of tutorials online on how to do this correctly. Here’s a lesson on what NOT to do.

DON’T use the microwave to melt your chocolate…

…and don’t use regular chocolate! I wound up dipping the balls once, then trying again using a double boiler – this time adding some butter/milk to help things get drippy…

…after a double dip, the giant mounds looked like meatballs! Uh…I meant to do that.

Scattered a bunch of sprinkles on top, threw it in the fridge, and pretended the whole thing never happened…

…but an hour later…

…I HAD to sample a mini one, with some frozen mango/raspberries.

Not bad at all!

This morning we hit the farmers market, where I filled up on everything from Dried Figs to Blood Oranges to Honey Cinnamon Almonds…

…bought some home too, and just snacked on a bowl of grapes…

…time to get ready for a party! Happy Sunday everyone.

This just made me laugh out loud =) but the end result was cute and I’m sure tasty. My first attempt at cakeballs was a sad, dismal sight. I now buy kits at target or world market! Kinda reminds me of a “pinterest fail”…google it if you’ve bored!

the cake pops look like they have an interesting texture on the inside for sure! pretty funny that they looked like meatballs but once they were sprinkle-ized they looked more cakey for sure. reminds me of the photo i’ve seen of a cake that looks like a hamburger!
