My Fair Lady

My Dad was in the hospital during this year’s LA County Fair Media Tasting, but the PR Company was sweet enough to still send tickets for me and a guest.

The first thing Sam and I did when we arrived was eat! She’s a hot dog aficionado, so…

…one all beef corn dog, of course! I tried one perfect bite.

Next up, a little Ferris action.

Sam’s a little afraid of heights…

DSCN0672

…unlike the OTHER wheel, this one is not enclosed…

DSCN0669

…but we still managed to snap photos of one another!

I would recommend saving your $$$ on the rides. They last for about 2 seconds…

…and are LAME.

Also kinda sad were the animals. I can’t help but feel bad for them…

DSCN0693 DSCN0697 DSCN0702

…cute and talented as they are.

DSCN0665

The parts I did enjoy were all indoors – maybe because there was A/C…

DSCN0661

…and free samples!

DSCN0722

Did you know that J.R. Watkins makes spices, in addition to soaps/cleaners/etc.? I tried a couple Bugles dipped in sour cream and seasonings…

…plus some candy-coated peanuts (from another vendor).

DSCN0729

More food to see – not to touch, unfortunately…

DSCN0682

…I kept wondering how long this stuff had been sitting out…

DSCN0685

…and why the AMAZING cake on the right got the same prize as a few cookies with candy corns pressed into them?!?

DSCN0683

Speaking of the great pumpkin…

DSCN0718

…I had a kiddie size cone of Dr. Bob’s Ice Cream to cool down.

We traded bites – she had vanilla, but agreed that mine was extra special.

This picture kinda sums me up – may have to become a Facebook or Twitter profile pic!

Our last ride was my favorite (and the cheapest too!) – a Sky Ride across the park…

DSCN0732

…where I spotted a mini train village…

DSCN0733

…with a teeny tiny garden! (SQUEAAAAAL)

DSCN0737

Before we left, Sam needed to find the perfect deep-fried something…

DSCN0674

DSCN0691

DSCN0739

…we walked around til we found it – avocados!

DSCN0740

They come with an Italian-esque oil but FYI there are plenty of condiment dipping options…

DSCN0746

…I ate half of one…

DSCN0757

…it was tasty (and rich), but not as good as the one I had in Austin (which came breaded – preferred that texture).

Still, we had an amazing day! Despite having gone just last year, I found it to be a completely different experience.

Cone and phone…so ambidextrous! ;)

You should plan a Texas State Fair Trip. It is a fried food extravaganza. Not to disappoint.
