Muffins in a Jiffy

So yup – cat’s outa the bag – I’m going to Eastern Europe! This is by no means a glamour tour, so I would LOVE all your advice about traveling abroad – what to do about cell phones, staying in hostels, must-try foods, local culture, packing light <—probably my biggest issue, since we have to wear all white when performing and I’m trying to figure out how to do that AND look cute, while still staying warm and sticking to one bag.

My friends over at Jellypop have offered to help me out with shoes, so I’m going by their headquarters today to try on a few options.

Whipped up a very quick batch of muffins to bring!

I adore Jiffy mixes, but I rarely use them because they’re not vegetarian (<—contain lard). But since I’m filling these with bacon chocolate, that’s not really an issue!

One was banana based…

…the other corn.

I put the latter in paper liners so you could differentiate the two.

I highly recommend doing that.

Only half of the bananas were pretty enough to package up.

See y’all later…hopefully with some shoes that will be perfect for Europe!

I’m wearing Jellypop shoes right now! They were the only ones that were comfortable to walk in during my daily Manhattan commute. Love them!

I was just in Germany (Berlin) last year and here are a couple things that helped me:
1) make sure you know your cell phone carrier’s policy on international roaming. You may have to make some adjustments to your phone (i.e. not letting it data roam) or you could be hit with some mega charges.
2) I used an Apple international travel adapter (bought in an Apple store) and it worked great for me in Germany.
3) Try to figure out the cheapest place to exchange money before you go so you won’t get stuck having to exchange at a higher rate (I’m sure some travel websites have some advice for this).
4)Make sure you have very comfortable walking shoes.

Hope you have a great trip – I’m looking forward to seeing all your pictures!

Congrats on all the big events + travel on the horizon! I don’t think I could travel and wear white (okay – wearing white and I just don’t go hand-in-hand at all!). Love the shoes – that might be the most important part to have covered!

Hi Lynn!! Long time no talk (we emailed about speaking at Harvard a couple months back)! :)

That bacon chocolate looks phenomenal!!! I’m drooling as I type this, haha. And how exciting that you’re going to Eastern Europe – I’ve never been, but it’s on high on my list of places to see.

I also wanted to let you know that thank to inspirations like yourself, I’ve started my own blog! If you have a moment, feel free to stop by and check it out. I can’t tell you how starstruck/thrilled I’d be if you did!! Thanks in advance, and good luck with your shoe search!
