We took a little road trip down the Turnpike so my brother could finally see his kids – the first time since our father’s death.

…being around them, even for just a few hours, was magical.

We made/ate lunch together…

…along with a lot of fruit and salad, I had a little TJ’s sushi, some pork bun, a little sandwich wrap, and a few croissants.

My nephews were so excited to hear they were going to be on The Actor’s Diet – everyone say hi to Tibby and Isaac!

Signs of my dad on the way back – literally…

…we brought Tibby back with us, and headed to Aunt Josephine’s for a home-cooked Chinese dinner.

See how he holds his chopsticks?

That’s the way my brother taught him, and that’s the way our dear father Fu-Yen George Chen taught us…

…not like the version on the back of the Chinese Restaurant wrappers!

We feasted on everything from tofu to cabbage to beef…

…plus miso-marinated fish.

My Aunt Josephine sure knows how to cook! She promised we’d share some recipes in future blog posts.

I had two platefuls…

…seconds on rice too.

For dessert, watermelon/berries…

…and a giant Chocolate Chunk Cookie.

Funeral’s coming up soon. Trying to let ourselves enjoy life a little so we can properly acknowledge death this weekend.

Hanging out with kids always brightens my day. I love them. I definitely would like to see the recipe for that Miso Fish. YUM!
Hi Tibby and Isaac! Nice to meet you.
those kids are beautiful! so glad you’ve had family to be with during this time…
I told Maya about your dad…she said, “When Lynn gets back we’ll make her something yummy and bring it to her.”
And whenever you are ready we’ll do just that.
so much love to you guys. thank you.
Spending time with kids is such a magical thing. They’re adorable and I love that they were so excited about being featured on TAD. Bloggers of the future? (:
Hi to Tibby and Isaac! Such cuties.
I’ve never seen anyone hold their chopsticks like that. I want to learn.
kids are the best at getting your mind off things and enjoying life again, enjoy your time with your family!
Lynn,
I’m so sorry I’m just now reading this. I’m so sorry about your father. So so sorry.
Sending love & prayers,
Christina
That’s *exactly* how I use my chopsticks too! I remember seeing the instructions on the Chinese restaurant wrappers and thinking *they* were the ones who’d gotten it wrong…
