Troop 90210

in movies

A few weeks ago, Abe and I watched a film so charming, I felt it deserved an entire dedicated post.

I actually didn’t grow up watching Troop Beverly Hills, but like every good 80′s movie, it started with a stellar animation sequence…

…leading straight into fashions that made me wish I had a time machine.

Shelley Long is hilarious and incredible, as usual. EVERYONE is in this movie…from Stephanie Beacham (a.k.a. Dylan McKay’s mother)…

….to a young Kellie Martin

…and Carla Gugino

…and yes, that is Jenny Lewis – one of my favorite musicians!

(I’m thinking this is where she learned to do the Freddie.)

If you’re looking for a really fun, totally ridiculous movie to watch with friends – this is it. I couldn’t believe how many responses I got when I said I mentioned it on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

A recommended menu – the above birthday cake, hobo stew (with lots of wine), strawberries with chocolate fondue, and of course, Girl Scout Cookies!

I adore this movie. I don’t think it got much recognition when it was new, but me and my friends use to watch it constantly on VHS.

Also, Phyllis Nefler is an under rated fashion icon.

My mom was a teen in the 80s so this was def one of those movies she said ‘you havvvvvvve to see!’ It is so silly! Shelley Long’s face is so expressive and so hilarious.

This is so funny because I loved this movie growing up and just a month ago I got nostalgic for it and had Netflix send me the DVD. A night that my husband was out, I curled up on the couch and watched it again. I swear I was smiling and laughing the entire time – it may have been made in the 80s but the movie is TIMELESS! Glad you finally watched it :)

I’ve never heard of this movie! But I loooove Shelley Long! There’s something about movies from this era that make me so relaxed. Perfect for cozying up and being lazy :)

It’s true – whenever i see the TriStar Unicorn or other 80′s movie logos, I instantly feel a sense of calm.

That’s my fave movie ever! My sister and I watched it so many times when we were kids. So many famous people in it, too…

Now I want some cookies. ;)

Oh, my God, I LOVE that movie. I haven't seen it in years, and actually never realized that Carla Gugino was in it (although I remembered that Kellie Martin was). For some reason, this movie makes me think of Overboard, which is maybe my favorite cheesy '80s movie.

Overboard is SO UNDERRATED. I love Goldie!

I’ve never seen it! I guess I should change that. I actually don’t think I’ve seen any of Jenny Lewis’ illustrious films, and she’s one of my faves, too.

i especially love watching her in old episodes of 80′s tv shows, like “growing pains” and “just the 10 of us”
