Since I Can’t Send You Melons…

June 5, 2012

in giveaway

I was in Hollywood yesterday for an audition, and caught a peek of the new Outdoor Screening facility.

Can’t believe this is the same Big Lots I used to get cheap snacks and park at (back when I used to go to the gym across the street).

Yup, this town is all about movies. There was a DVD ready to go at my commercial audition (remember when I actually went to The Badlands in 2009?!?)…

…even the Trader Joes is movie-themed!

And of course, it’s my job.  Just got my new union card in the mail – look how long I’ve been at this!

As much as L.A. is centered around films, this blog is to show you it’s also about food. A little TOO MUCH food. My stomach has been feeling the effects from this past weekend’s Deep Dish Pizza, Marilyn Monroe Dinner, and Chinese Food Feast.

(“Dinner” was melon/miso and “Dessert” was cherries/cocoa.)

I’m a bit overbooked when it comes to eating for the next few months (yes, I said months). Every other day there’s some kind of tasting, dinner, meeting, or date that revolves around something delicious. So when I was contacted yesterday by Urban Girl Wellness – they just launched the 14-Day Fresh Start - it sounded like it would be exactly what my tummy needs.  The Program includes smoothies, snacks, online support, and plenty of materials to guide you through a two-week cleanse.

But since I know myself, my history with eating disorders, and my lifestyle/agenda very well, I know a detox isn’t for me.  Still, this one sounds pretty do-able and trustworthy, especially since Paula Burton, the creator of Urban Girl Wellness, went to Integrative Nutrition, where Christy studied.

So instead of going on the detox for 2 weeks myself and blogging about it, I’m going to give it away – a $750 value  - free to one of you.  (And if you want to try it for $250 now, just sign up here and say you were referred by The Actor’s Diet blog.)

I’m trying out PunchTab for the first time with this giveaway – it should allow you to enter easily in multiple ways with just a few clicks.  But if for some reason it’s not showing up/working, just leave a regular old comment on this post saying why you want to try The 14-Day Fresh Start Program.  I’ll choose one U.S. winner next week.  Good luck!

I’ve been suffering from some chronic illness issues lately and have been struggling to find a way to freshen up my body from the inside out. I was told to look into a cleanse, but the idea of them has always been scary to me – I don’t want to starve myself or rely entirely on liquids to subside, but I don’t know how to do it otherwise. I researched this cleanse and it looks incredible – a safe way to ensure that I’m still getting all the health benefits I need. I’m sure a cleanse like this would make my body (and mind) feel better.

“The vanilla shakes are vegan friendly. The bars contain a little bit of whey. They are welcome to do the supplements, vanilla shakes and program. We would tailor the rest of the snacks to incorporate some vegan friendly stuff. Definitely doable!”

I’m just always in such a rush and I need to get back to reallly enjoying my food again! I’ve also always been curious about these kinds of things – in the past, I was always quick to dismiss cleanses and detoxes as rubbish but I think that I really ought to give things a try before I write them off! Perhaps this is just what I need to get my stomach feeling good again and my body back on track.

Just like you, i’ve had some issues with eating disorders and mainly binge eating and topped the scale at 230 pounds (my height is 5’6). About five years ago, I went to a bunch of trainers, a nutritionist, and spent a whole summer working out and losing 50 pounds. During this i ate lettuce and mustard and egg whites. Every single day. I also drank the nights away and would continue on my odd diet. I did end up losing loads of poundage in an unhealthy way– working out five hours a day and eating a few hundred calories daily. Ever since then,I’ve lost 80 pounds total, found a healthy diet with a few occasional foodie binges (similar eating habits to you!), and work out normal amounts (4-5 times a week for an hour). I have a new demanding job lately and have not been able to keep up my normally nutritious food regimen. I’ve been traveling a lot for work, stressed out with the usual life woes (all these health problems are popping up in my family!), and am desperate for a kick start to health!

I’d love to win the 14 day fresh start so I can feel great about my body rather then the slump I’ve been going through. Don’t worry, it wouldn’t go wasted on me. i know what it’s like to “diet” through lifestyle changes and I have been wanting to try something new without starting a fad diet– you have to know, i’m completely against fad diets. For me, it’s not about losing the weight but feeling great again!
