Since I Can’t Send You Melons…

I was in Hollywood yesterday for an audition, and caught a peek of the new Outdoor Screening facility.

Can’t believe this is the same Big Lots I used to get cheap snacks and park at (back when I used to go to the gym across the street).

Yup, this town is all about movies. There was a DVD ready to go at my commercial audition (remember when I actually went to The Badlands in 2009?!?)…

…even the Trader Joes is movie-themed!

And of course, it’s my job.  Just got my new union card in the mail – look how long I’ve been at this!

As much as L.A. is centered around films, this blog is to show you it’s also about food. A little TOO MUCH food. My stomach has been feeling the effects from this past weekend’s Deep Dish Pizza, Marilyn Monroe Dinner, and Chinese Food Feast.

(“Dinner” was melon/miso and “Dessert” was cherries/cocoa.)

I’m a bit overbooked when it comes to eating for the next few months (yes, I said months). Every other day there’s some kind of tasting, dinner, meeting, or date that revolves around something delicious. So when I was contacted yesterday by Urban Girl Wellness – they just launched the 14-Day Fresh Start – it sounded like it would be exactly what my tummy needs.  The Program includes smoothies, snacks, online support, and plenty of materials to guide you through a two-week cleanse.

But since I know myself, my history with eating disorders, and my lifestyle/agenda very well, I know a detox isn’t for me.  Still, this one sounds pretty do-able and trustworthy, especially since Paula Burton, the creator of Urban Girl Wellness, went to Integrative Nutrition, where Christy studied.

So instead of going on the detox for 2 weeks myself and blogging about it, I’m going to give it away – a $750 value  – free to one of you.  (And if you want to try it for $250 now, just sign up here and say you were referred by The Actor’s Diet blog.)

I’m trying out PunchTab for the first time with this giveaway – it should allow you to enter easily in multiple ways with just a few clicks.  But if for some reason it’s not showing up/working, just leave a regular old comment on this post saying why you want to try The 14-Day Fresh Start Program.  I’ll choose one U.S. winner next week.  Good luck!

I’m in a food rut and this sounds like about the healthiest detox I’ve ever seen! Thanks, Lynn (and PunchTab is pretty neat!).

  2. Lisa

I miss LA weather. I’m so spoiled. I’m in the Caribbean yet here I am.. whining. It’s too humid. : P

  3. kayleigh

I would love to try it because I am trying to eat healthier and this seems like a great option!

I’ve been suffering from some chronic illness issues lately and have been struggling to find a way to freshen up my body from the inside out. I was told to look into a cleanse, but the idea of them has always been scary to me – I don’t want to starve myself or rely entirely on liquids to subside, but I don’t know how to do it otherwise. I researched this cleanse and it looks incredible – a safe way to ensure that I’m still getting all the health benefits I need. I’m sure a cleanse like this would make my body (and mind) feel better.

Oh my gosh, Lynn, I would love love LOVE to win this. I'm getting married in September, and although I'm loathe to be "that bride" who's trying to lose weight for her wedding, I do need to take off the 10+ pounds I've gained while recipe-testing for my books. This cleanse sounds AMAZING!

  7. Lisa

I’ve been feeling sluggish lately and it has everything to do with what I’ve been putting into my body. Would love to reboot my system and start afresh!

  8. Heather

I would be over the moon to win this. I’ve been wanting someone else to do all the thinking for me with food!

  9. Christina Lynn Feindel

I was planning on doing a detox this month to help treat a GI condition — this program looks like a great match to what I need and I would love to give it a try and see how I feel afterwards!

  10. Jenna U.

I would love to try this! I have IBS so lately I feel like I need something to just cleanse myself and start fresh!

  11. Kristie

I would love to win this and give it to my mom! She wants to get a little healthier and I’m not in the best position to give her health advice…but I’m sure Paula Burton is!

Ps- drove down Wilshire yesterday and passed by so many places that you’ve blogged about! Was half hoping to spot you on the street or something:)

      1. Kristie

I’ve never been to the Larchmont area (didn’t even know it existed until I read your blog, oops) but it’s bound to happen one of these days! So don’t be alarmed if you spot a little Asian girl eyeing you through the car window sometime in the near future.

  12. Sarah M.

Haven’t ever gone on a cleanse but have been wanting to — this one definitely looks doable!

  13. katecooks

I’ve tried to detox once but without the support of a program it was pretty difficult! i’ve been eating up a storm lately and would love to clean my system in a healthy way!

  14. Sara P.

I would like to win because I am really into healthy eating, and this would be an easy way to do it!! (also, I could use a break from cooking for a couple weeks!!)

  15. Tricia

I’ve never done an “official” cleanse before, and I have a strong passion for health and fitness, so I am really willing to experience something new.

  16. Emily

A detox such as this one sounds amazing! Not only would it allow me to not stress about my meals for a few weeks, it would also ensure that I’m getting all of the nutrients I need. Being on-the-go all the time can make that difficult!

PS: I just got my new SAG-AFTRA card as well! Although, I definitely haven’t been a member as long as you. (:

  17. Eve

I would like to win because I just started rotations mid-May and I feel sluggish and tired every day (maybe this also has something to do with the fact that I have been on a student “sleep until noon every day” schedule for the past several years). Also I’m spending my first summer on the super hot and humid east coast (really miss southern California!) and I’m packing a few more pounds than I would like to be!

  18. Michelle

as someone who reaches for a glazed donut for breakfast way too many mornings, i would love to try this plan and start my summer with something healthy for me! hopefully it’ll create new and better habits 🙂

  19. Dewey

What a good idea! I feel the same way–my tummy could use a little extra love right now, in the midst of junk-food celebration season.

  20. Emily

This post made me home sick! I just moved from Hollywood and it is great to see that the Big Lots has been transformed 🙂 And I do miss that TJ’s…. I would love to win as I am about to have a baby and this would be a great kickstart back to health once he makes his appearance 🙂

  21. Jessica

This is just what I need after my move this week to a new apartment. Having convenient healthy meals at such a stressful time would be great!

  22. Brigid

I want to win because my eating has been all over the place lately (i.e. intermittently clean and terrible). Getting a “reset” would be wonderful!

  23. Vegyogini

Hi Lynn! Do you have any idea if the food on this cleanse is vegan? If it is, I’d love to be entered. I’m always preparing meals for myself and I think it would be amazing to have that taken care of by someone else for a couple weeks. 🙂

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Lynn @ The Actor's Diet Post author

      Here’s what Paula said:

“The vanilla shakes are vegan friendly. The bars contain a little bit of whey. They are welcome to do the supplements, vanilla shakes and program. We would tailor the rest of the snacks to incorporate some vegan friendly stuff. Definitely doable!”

  24. alain

thanks Lynn for holding this giveaway! i’d love to win because similar to you i have been feeling the effects of too many meals out and especially late night snacking. i think where we differ is that i am uber-sensitive to sugar and the more i have it, the more i crave it. i think this detox will be a great way for me to recalibrate my tastebuds and get me off the sugar-crack train.

  25. Danielle Gonzales

I definitely need to start eating/being healthier in general and I’d love to give this a shot to start off!

  26. k

I know that I eat very healthfully and do enjoy my food. However, I would love to do something like this to reset my digestive system. Plus I love smoothies! Free smoothies, even better! 🙂

  27. Breanna Laakkonen

I would love to try it because this sounds like a healthy kickstart to my summer and a good boost to my healthy eating attempts!

  28. Lisak

I have been feeling overbooked with my eating too (bbqs, fun summer drinks, birthday parties, weddings), so this comes at the perfect time for me!

  29. Jessica Wood

I"d like to do this for my health and overall mental wellness. I'm still clinging to about 15 lbs of baby weight and need to fit into my old clothing. 🙂

  30. Christy Lapeyre

I would like to win because summer is here…already. And my body is nowhere near ready and Id like a healthy way to kick off some weight loss. =)

  31. Jane

I would love to try this Detox! I think the approach of Urban Girl Wellness is great and I would love to be able to experience the health improvement that comes with on of their programs.

  32. bonnie

I’d like to try it because I really need to stop my unhealthy eating ways and I need some encouragement.

  33. Andrea@WellnessNotes

I have never done a detox, but I know my body would thank me. I’m actually in the middle of really “cleaning” my diet up (after a very stressful couple weeks), and a plan that I could follow would be great.

  34. Laura Tiffany

I'm vegetarian and my boyfriend is vegan, yet we both have weight issues. Recently, he was diagnosed with diabetes (it's genetic with him), so we're both trying to get our carbs and sugars under control. While only one of us could go on the cleanse, I think it would really help both of us get ourselves in gear for a healthier lifestyle.

  35. meredith

sounds delicious! i’d love to win and try a cleanse to start the summer off feeling revitalized.

  36. Lindsey

I would love to win this detox! I have adopted some unhealthy habits that I need help to get rid of!

  37. Amy S

I’ve never tried a detox/cleanse but I’ve been wanting to try one for a while now

  38. Annie G.

I’m roughing it out in DC living the post-grad intern life… and a detox sounds wonderful!

  39. Natalie

i’d love to try this program because i just moved home and literally have been eating the same thing every single day!!

  40. Jennifer

I would love the chance to try the detox. I have been really struggling to lose weight and I definitely think that a cleanse would be a great way to jump start my summer goals! Thanks for a great giveaway!

  41. Ezzie

The past few weeks have been pretty grueling (so glad finals are over!) and I haven’t been feeding myself the best food. I’m more than ready to let go of the Cheez-its and icecream and give my body a fresh& healthy kickoff to summer!

  42. Diane beebe

I would like to win this as I haven’t been able to stick to a detox yet…..this sounds doable……

  43. Ariel

Ive been eating to many factory made food items. Need a Fresh start. With amazing healthy food. That I don’t need to think about what to eat next.

  44. Jaime Sutton Schaden

Food and I are not always the best of friends. A cleanse that has support and food is a great way to jumpstart healthier eating habits.

  45. Dana H

I would love to try this! I work in the health and wellness industry, and Im always looking for new/exciting information to experience myself and help with clients, family, and friends!

  46. Megan Kennedy

I've never done a cleanse and I was just talking to a girlfriend about them yesterday. I have a ton of food allergies and I found out I can eliminate all foods by cleansing and add each thing one by one to pinpoint the issue.

  47. Darcee

This sounds exactly like something I’m going to need after I come home from vacation!! 11 days in the Midwest with family who likes to feed, feed, feed you, i”ll need a good cleanse:)

  48. Nashira Thomas

I just started a new, exciting, and very stressful job. The long hours and skipped lunch breaks are making it difficult to make smart meal choices. This cleanse would be a great opportunity to put me back on track.

  49. Kari

I wouldn’t mind trying a detox plan and reporting my findings. I haven’t been eating great the past week or so and could probably use it!

  50. Megan Lin

I need the detox plan because after my nights of chocolate, tacos, carbs, carbs, chocolate, carbs, carbs, carbs, and an organic apple….home girl needs a detox!

  51. Joann C.

Wow! That detox actually sounds doable! I would love to win the 14-Day Fresh Start Detox. My eating habits have been all over the board recently and its getting to the point where I feel slow and sluggish all the time because of it!

  52. gloria

I’ve never done a detox, but I would love to The 14-Day Fresh Start Program a try!

I've always wanted to try a 'cleanse'– after a few days of heavy indulgences, I'm often unable to consume anything more than juice/water. A plan such as this one sounds far more nutritious. Thank you!

  55. Living, Learning, Eating

I’ve been so busy with my internships and jobs that I’ve been eating absolutely terribly – just whatever is in sight and ALL of it. I’m just always in such a rush and I need to get back to reallly enjoying my food again! I’ve also always been curious about these kinds of things – in the past, I was always quick to dismiss cleanses and detoxes as rubbish but I think that I really ought to give things a try before I write them off! Perhaps this is just what I need to get my stomach feeling good again and my body back on track.

  56. erica

have always wanted to try something like this! would be a good way to reset and reconsider eating choices

  57. Emily

I love the idea of detox for a “reset”, physically and- maybe more importantly- mentally. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  58. AnJelique

I feel as though I need a change in my life and this would be a great way to get it started!!

A cleanse/detox is such a great way to jumpstart your body, and sort of reset and realign everything. A great way to start off bikini season! 🙂

  61. Eliza

As a working girl and newly part time student (applying for nursing school) things are busy. I try and plan my meals in advance to be healthy and fresh. but this giveaway would be epic to make things easier. I would love to try it out and detox. It could also be helpful with my stress management 🙂

  62. Nancy Yun

Just like you, i’ve had some issues with eating disorders and mainly binge eating and topped the scale at 230 pounds (my height is 5’6). About five years ago, I went to a bunch of trainers, a nutritionist, and spent a whole summer working out and losing 50 pounds. During this i ate lettuce and mustard and egg whites. Every single day. I also drank the nights away and would continue on my odd diet. I did end up losing loads of poundage in an unhealthy way– working out five hours a day and eating a few hundred calories daily. Ever since then,I’ve lost 80 pounds total, found a healthy diet with a few occasional foodie binges (similar eating habits to you!), and work out normal amounts (4-5 times a week for an hour). I have a new demanding job lately and have not been able to keep up my normally nutritious food regimen. I’ve been traveling a lot for work, stressed out with the usual life woes (all these health problems are popping up in my family!), and am desperate for a kick start to health!

I’d love to win the 14 day fresh start so I can feel great about my body rather then the slump I’ve been going through. Don’t worry, it wouldn’t go wasted on me. i know what it’s like to “diet” through lifestyle changes and I have been wanting to try something new without starting a fad diet– you have to know, i’m completely against fad diets. For me, it’s not about losing the weight but feeling great again!

I'd like to win because summer break indulgences are leaving me feeling really yucky, time to cleanse!

  68. Elle

I’ve never done a detox before, but after a lot of travelling and sweets lately, I could definitely use one. Having a program would mean one less thing I have to think about, which I could really use!
