Every day I walk towards Larchmont Boulevard, usually to one of the places I write about on a regular basis – Bricks and Scones, Le Pain Quotidien, BabyCakes, Larchmont Bungalow, The Wine and Cheese Shop, Cafe Gratitude, Twirl, and Prado. The other morning, I decided to head in the opposite direction along Melrose, and was surprised to stumble upon Nue Studio, just east of Paramount Studios.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because they’re already a successful Miami salon/spa/boutique, featured on Elle Magazine’s Top 100 list.

The Los Angeles branch adopts a similar hybrid theme – the reason I was so interested was because they have an adorable cafe attached!

More on the food in a bit…

…I was actually there to get a haircut!

I know, I said I was going to grow my locks down to my ass. But my ‘do has been driving me bonkers lately, especially with this cowlick showing up whenever I don’t take the time to tame it.

See the before and after? That’s all because of this genius:

Known in Miami as the “Hair God,” Todd Jameson specializes in a dry cut, so you can get in and out of that chair without a time-consuming wash!

He also showed me a whole bunch of tricks that require minimal effort…

…since he’s touched the heads of everyone from mere mortals to models to mothers (and fathers) of rock, he obviously knows what he’s doing. There was a music theme going on throughout the studio…

…Todd DJ’d…

…then got behind the counter and made me a meal! I put away the hair menu…

…and studied the food one:

The first salad sounded right up my alley…

…except there weren’t any brussels sprouts, so Todd gave it to me on the house!

Fresh kale with crushed nuts and vinaigrette…

…you can definitely order it vegan-ized, sans cheese.

I think you could add tofu (or chicken or egg) too – I’m sure they’d be open to ANYTHING. The entire vibe is completely down-to-earth and friendly…

…love that they have so many fun community events too (Karaoke Wednesdays coming soon – check their facebook/twitter feeds.)

With Rockstar Hair/Food at affordable prices, plus WiFi…

…and seating for Julius…

…I know I’ll be spending a lot more time walking AWAY from Larchmont in the future.

P.S. – Make sure to tell them I sent you – they’ve got a referral program!

SO cute! I always drive by this place, but never knew what it was all about. This looks like a great place for Mark and me (and Pliny!) to hit up on the weekend.
You are adorable! I thought at first you wrote KALEOKE!
Kaleoke. I’m starting that!!!
it would be SO fun to hang out with you for a day, lynn!
love the new hair!
I look so much better online. I swear.
Great haircut! It’s both cute and edgy
A salon, a shop, and a cafe? What do they *not* have? Add a bookstore and a travel agent and it would be perfect! Also, free food = awesome.
They actually do have a book section too. I think if you donate one you get a discount on your cut?!?
I love the haircut and the way he tied it up!
ah! I want to learn how to do that messy bun look! I love it
