Woke up yesterday in Los Angeles bright and early, hopped on a plane…

…ate this bag of Cinnamon Cayenne Almonds (<—made me cough!) plus California citrus…

…then made it to Orange State – but it looked like our hood back home?!?

Katherine is one of my dearest, oldest friends (I’ve known her even longer than Abe). She and her husband Gordon are both doing us HUGE favors as Disney employees…

…we took them our to dinner, Hollywood style!

The Brown Derby was a landmark back in the day – close to where we live…

…it closed in 1985, but this is a replication restaurant at Disney’s Hollywood Studios…

…from the decor…

…to certain menu items – like the original Cobb Salad!

We began with warm rolls – I ate one, without butter (but it did look pretty fancy)

Appetizers to share -

Mushroom Napoleon with Blue Cheese, Dates, and Fig Reduction Sauce

Blue Lump Crab Spring Rolls with Asian Slaw

For my main entree, I ordered the famous salad, but with the bacon/turkey/blue cheese on the side so everyone could partake…

…plus two different dressings (the Original has Worcestershire) in it. The green one is a yummy sweet onion.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a chopped salad so…chopped!

(Thanks, David!)

Once everyone had sampled a bit, I piled on the meat, cheese, and dressings.

Also had a bite of Abe’s vegan Noodle Bowl – with Coconut Tofu and Red Curry broth…

…plus Gordon’s Crispy Duck Magret + Duck Confit with Apple-Rosemary Stuffing

For dessert, the Banana and White Chocolate Toffee Tower on Cocoa-Almond Cookie…

…and another Brown Derby Original – Grapefruit Cake…

Tea time too.

Gordon and I split this guy – my 1/2 couldn’t handle the weight of the Toffee!

The grapefruit peel was bitter but edible…

…the cake itself was really interesting! Not something I’d order all the time but the taste grew on me.

Here’s the recipe…

…I also got the Cobb one too!

A fun night out in “Hollywood,” and a trip back in time too!

Food looks amaaaaazing! I’ve always wanted to go to the Brown Derby ever since I was about six or seven when I saw it in an I Love Lucy episode, but sadly, have never been.
I’d eat that salad in a second!!
Delicious food
Ooh looks like so much fun!
Love the Brown Derby at Disney! My husband I went there to eat on our honeymoon!
