Crustacean

March 27, 2012

in appetizers, dessert, lunch, restaurant, salads, vegetarian

I’ve driven by Crustacean about a hundred times on South Santa Monica, but never noticed it til they invited me and Abe for a complimentary lunch…

…look for the building with spines (like a lobster!)

And if you’re on foot, you’ll see the restaurant sign.

Yes, those are actual Koi inside…

IMG_4225

…they swim throughout the stunning restaurant!

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the An Family has a Vietnamese Fusion Empire all around California (including a food truck and catering company), with a ton of press and celebrity clients -

We started off with some meat n seafood appetizers…

IMG_4248

…I had one of each…

IMG_4254

…plus a bite of Abe’s Buddha Roll…

IMG_4247

IMG_4245

…in fact most of what we ordered was vegetarian!

IMG_4239

The Eggplant Tofu…

IMG_4255

IMG_4260

…Warm Spinach Salad with parmesan, berries, beets, and mushrooms…

IMG_4262

…and their famous Garlic Noodles (<—which I’ve blogged about before)

IMG_4266

IMG_4273

Every single thing was delectable! I went back for one last plateful.

IMG_4275

More fried food for dessert – the Traditional Vietnamese Fritters, served a la mode…

IMG_4285

…you have a choice of Pineapple, Apple or Banana.

IMG_4283

Went with the latter – and ate about 1/4 of it.

Wish I’d known about their lunch specials before, since it’s a much nicer setting for a Beverly Hills meeting than the places I’ve been going! The service was prompt (Abe had to get back to the MGL offices so they moved quickly, at our request) and couldn’t have been more friendly and knowledgable.

Realizing now I should’ve used one of my Crustacean plates for my bedtime snack:

Chicago – just found out I now have TWO of my movies playing at The Gene Siskel Film Center this April for the 17th Annual Asian American Showcase – “Daylight SavingsandYes We’re Open” – opening and closing night!

Hi Lynn! We were just at Crustacean last week celebrating my dear friend’s birthday! We always get the Secret Kitchen Chilean sea bass which is not on the menu, but it’s amazing and melts in your mouth and the Secret Kitchen cracked crab. Plus loads of the famed garlic noodles and a big family style platter of Bok Choy, spinach and other greens!

X

I’ve gotten the garlic noodles from the An the Go food truck before! Looks like a very nice restaurant!

The inside of Crustacean is gorgeous! And I love that they offer so many vegetarian options. Next time I have an appointment or meeting in that area, I’ll have to give it a try.

Maya and I LOVE Crustacean. My favorite thing there is the sea bass. And the best part? Maya is mesmerized by the fish in the floor and she leaves us alone. :)

If you are ever in the OC try their sister restaurant Anqi. It’s delicious too!

Crustacean is so tasty! I had their signature whole crab in the shell with the garlic noodles when I was there a few months ago.
