Brentwood Country Mart

los angeles area interests - shopping

Hey guys! Quick post – got a shoot this weekend and am scrambling around to get stuff done before tomorrow…

IMG_3905

…we had a pre-production meeting over lunch in the Brentwood Country Mart. I’ve been here a few times since living in Los Angeles, but apparently not in three years -since I’ve never blogged about it!

Do NOT come during lunch time if you can help it.   Parking is a nightmare!!!

IMG_4003

But I still love all the little shops…

…plenty of cute places to nosh too…

IMG_4001

…three (or more) years ago I spotted Jamie Lee Curtis

IMG_3996

…this time Eugene Levy was there!

Lunch was at FarmShop – more on that later…

Any Cleveland readers? “Daylight Savings” is going to play at CIFF the end of this month!

Death by Chocolate

dessert - theatre - travel

Remember when I reviewed TOURific Escapes back in November 2010?

IMG_3718

Well in the last 2 years, lovely couple Trish and Matt have expanded their empire (they’re #1 on Trip Advisor with a perfect 5 star Yelp Rating!) to include a tour for Chocoholics

…and they invited me and Jenny to experience it!

Our sweet adventure began at the Farmer’s Market

IMG_3696

…and led us behind-the-scenes of the cities’ best chocolatiers (I took a video too) –

IMG_3760

How happy are we?!?

IMG_3780

Here’s what I got to try –

English toffee…

IMG_3704

…chocolate macaron…

IMG_3716

IMG_3723

…all of the above, and below (fresh off the conveyer belt)…

IMG_3738

IMG_3745

…chocolate-covered Cheerios (a few handfuls)…

IMG_3778

…cocoa-based baked goods…

IMG_3808

…and fluids…

IMG_3815

(I ate more brownies than milk)

IMG_3817

…sandwiches…

IMG_3832

…with bacon (if these sound familiar it’s because I’ve blogged about them before)…

IMG_3843

…Fonuts – faux donuts – but they tasted like cake (check out Jenny’s review)

IMG_3749

It was wonderful to have my food blogging buddy with me – we shared some bites along the way!

IMG_3774

In the van between stops, Trish kept us thoroughly entertained! Three hours flew by…

IMG_3748

…with nibbles en route (like these raw cacao nibs)…

IMG_3788

…and lots of history + trivia games, with prizes! I had some Goo Goo Cluster

IMG_3798

Toblerone

IMG_3858

…a Reese’s Crunchy PB Cup (only tried one Necco Wafer <— didn’t grow up on these and wasn’t a fan)

IMG_3859

And even though it wasn’t chocolate, we ended the extravaganza with a caramel-covered marshmallow.

IMG_3863

This is how I felt afterwards:

IMG_3768

Just like last time, Trish and Matt did a stellar job – the tour was informative, fun, entertaining, and delicious. Even if you’re a native Angeleno, you’ll learn something new…

IMG_3868

…and look how much stuff I went home with!

IMG_3877

Instead of sinking into the oncoming sugar coma, I turned into Count Chocula and ventured out as the sun went down…

IMG_3883

…my friends Randall (and Jae) had a show at The Hudson Theatres’ Comedy Central Stage which kept me awake through laughter.

IMG_3885

No hot cocoa last night, obviously. Salt was desperately needed…

IMG_3894

…but sugar always follows, even on my chocolate deathbed.

Just found out that “Yes We’re Open” is closing the Chicago Asian American Film Fest in April! I wonder if there’ll be some Windy City Chocolate in my future…
