Amy T. Shuster is an actress, writer, singer and food enthusiast (and my new foodie friend). Her blog is Backyard Bite, which focuses on creating positive content to help generate awareness of local independent foodie “gems” in the Los Angeles area. Amy lives and dines in Los Angeles, CA.
When I saw that Lynn had a “favorite things” series going on her website, I just had to put in my two cents. Blogging for The Backyard Bite, enables me to eat out at various places to find those hidden “gems” that exist in every neighborhood. I love to eat and dine out like it’s my “job.” Friends ask me where they should go for lunch, or for a date and I’m ready with a few solid suggestions.
Now, that being said, it’s always a difficult thing narrowing down your favorites to just a few. It’s like asking a film buff “what’s your favorite movie of ALL–TIME?” There’s never just one answer. So as 2011 neared to a close, I decided to make a short list of some of my favorite spots in Los Angeles that I discovered last year. That short list became a long list, and that long list became song, which subsequently inspired a video.
In addition, here are a few of my favorite “actor-y” hang outs that I love to go to when reading a script, conducting some business, or just in between auditions when I have some down time.
Stir Crazy Coffee Shop, West Hollywood
A low-key, local’s favorite that has good WiFi, breakfast specials and $2 bottomless coffee!
Bricks and Scones, Hancock Park
Features LAMILL espressos and a library-like quiet ambiance that’s perfect for studying that new script. It has got a great outdoor patio for group gatherings and a killer chocolate chip cookie. Free WiFi – check!
Royal-T, Culver City
Where coffee meets art! I love that after I lunch here with friends I can shop their super cute artsy-fartsy boutique and buy everything from Pantone coffee mugs to hamburger earrings from RadCo.
Larchmont Bungalow, Larchmont Village
Don’t let the long lines fool you, this eco-friendly “homey” café has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is huge and the coffee, which they roast in-house daily, is really good. I’m a chocolate lover so I get the Moroccan Iced Coffee. Although prices are a little steep, they take the KCRW fringe benefits card and offer a 10% discount!
Simple Things Sandwich & Pie Shop, West Hollywood
Like an old-school bakery, it’s best known for their PIES. Features Intelligentsia espressos and a “simple” menu that’s got huge salads and hearty sandwiches. Come with a good book or a great friend.
I could go on and on but for now, there’s just a taste… Maybe I will just have to write another “favorites” song, lol… To be continued…
