Living in Los Angeles, I’ve learned not to turn my nose up at restaurants in strip malls

The whole family gathered together on Mosto Enoteca’s heated patio (overlooking Washington Boulevard, which saw some police action last night!)

Abe and I shared a plate of baby spinach with green apple, caramelized walnuts, fig balsamic reduction, and baked goat cheese…

…plus one of Aunt Heidi’s Crostino Pomodori

Two pieces of fresh bread were also consumed…

…they offer high-quality olive oil (which Wendy raved about) but I chose to smear mine with the salad cheese instead

For the main course, I ordered the Tagliatelle Nere Ai Gamberi – with shrimp, asparagus, and cherry tomatoes

I actually dreamt about squid ink pasta Thursday night! See? Dreams can come true.

Traded bites with the rest of the table – two different grilled fish dishes…

…Pumpkin Ravioli with Butter and Sage…

…Pappardelle with Beef Ragu and Ricotta Salata…

…and Pasta with Sea Urchin (the special)

Everything was homemade and yummy – including the three desserts we ordered – I probably ate about 1/3 of all them!
Salted Caramel/Butterscotch pudding…

…Warm Chocolate Cabernet Cake with Red Wine Sauce and a fabulous gelato…

…a Vanilla version accompanied the Fig and Almond Tart.

Yay, to delicious surprises!

What’s the best strip mall food you’ve ever eaten? Other gems I’ve discovered: Mario’s Peruvian, Jitlada, Doomie’s, Kobawoo House, Scoops Westside, and pretty much every restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley.

Here in H-town, there is also lots of great food in strip malls. The one that comes to mind immediately is an upscale Portugese wine bar and tapas restaurant in a strip mall near our regular movie theater. But lots of great Mom and Pops, too!
I’ve never had Portuguese food before – sounds great…
DOOMIE’S!!!
sarò a LA a fine settembre…e ci vado sì!
Che bel viaggio!!!!!!!!! E vai !!!!!!!!!
