Whenever we have out-of-town guests, I get to be on vacation too! We took Abe’s parents away….

…to Barnsdall Art Park – a beautiful place just to hang out (which Abe and I have actually done before)

The Hollyhock House is being renovated, but there are public tours…

…call first; the website has a different schedule from the sign I spotted at the Art Gallery

For dinner we headed west and swung by Gjelina – I’ve been eager to try their take away service, which launched last summer.

For some reason, they don’t accept Gjelina gift cards here?! I still don’t quite understand why.

We ordered a bunch of side salads and pizzas to share

Kennebec Potato – with olive tapenade, tomato confit, green onion, and feta

Fennel Salami – confit tomato (as opposed to the tomato confit used above?) asiago, green onion

Trio of salads – farro/radish/feta/arugula, beets/carrots/pumpkin seeds/avocado/yogurt dressing, and black kale/garbanzos/tomato/salami/basil/treviso/cucumbers/pecorino

Chicories, Citrus, and Parmesan

Gem Lettuce, Pomegranate, Persimmon, Blue Cheese Dressing, Garlic Chips

Taste the rainbow!!!

Some roasted parsnip/potato/turnips too

Seconds on the kale, beets, and a small slice of Margherita Pizza

Dolci

The seven of us shared two tarts – one with chocolate and coconut….

…and a REALLY lemon-y one (pucker up!)

3 McConnell’s ice creams – peppermint, chocolate, and coffee

All the food was terrific! I had to excuse myself for the radio interview with APEX – if you missed it, you can listen online here (Lisa and I come on around the 35-minute mark).
Gotta get more work done today – but we’ve got fun dinner plans!

I did a tour of the Hollyhock House this summer – it was really cool! Looove Gjelina. Don’t love the tude that sometimes accompanies the food though… so weird they wouldn’t take the gift certificate!
This post reminded me… went to Stella Rossa last night (for my bday) mostly based on your blog post about them. I can’t believe I waited so long. It was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I got the special – White PIzza, Kale, Cauliflower and Fresno Chilies. I could eat that everyday.. and the crust was perfect! Thanks for that post!!
yay – so glad to hear it! reminds me i need to go back – STELLA!!!!
