Oh. My. Cupcake.

My buddy Jenny (a.k.a. Dessert Darling) asked me to be her guest for the 2012 Cupcake Challenge, where she was invited as a judge.

35 Cupcakes…could we handle it???

Yes we can!!!
So…as you can see from the video, our initial strategy was blown right out the window (and yes, I realize it’s “take a bullet” not “DODGE” one). I blame the sugar, which definitely affected our brain functioning!!! Ate at least one bite (sometimes two) of every single cupcake, plus a few bonus flavors that found themselves on our trays.

My favorites?

[Desi]gn Cake’s Buffalo Chicken (such a solid bakery; also loved their Churro)…

…plus ButterSweet Minis’ Mint Chip (perfect balance of texture and flavors)

Honorable mentions to the Southern Red Velvet from Shereese’s Sweets…

….Tres Leches by Dulcitas …

…and My Delight’s Red Velvet Raspberry Cheesecake

Oh what a mess we made…

…my mind couldn’t seem to follow basic directions…

…and then somehow (in the process of cleaning our area/packing up all the half-eaten cupcakes) I completely lost the ballot and couldn’t even vote!!! Oops.

For those of you wondering, even I was too sugared-out for my usual post-meal candies. (I did have a few pieces before bed, though, with a cup of chamomile tea.)
My advice for next year? Definitely bring large, tray-sized containers, and share one of them with a friend – that way you can bring home beautiful, in-tact cupcakes (not like the half-eaten, smooshed bites sitting in my freezer right now).
Be sure to check out Dessert Darling in the next few days for a more thorough recap of the event and Drink Eat Play to find out who won!

Buffalo Chicken cupcakes?! Sweet and salty?
there were other ones that TRIED to do sweet/savory but this one was definitely the best!
That is a lot to take in! WOW! I like the idea of the cornbread cupcakes though…yum!
Holy cup cake Batman! My sugar levels spiked at the very idea of sampling that many…but I would be willing to suck it up and give it a go.
That is seriously impressive! Looks like so much fun though.
I definitely want to attend next year!
Ummm, MOST awesome job EVER being a cupcake judge, haha! Funny thing is, I just posted a coconut cupcake on my blog that I’m thinking maybe I should have submitted for voting? =p
oh man what a fun time!! love cupcakes and would love to be a judge, haha, i would never need sugar again
