Featured Foodie: Beverly Kim from Top Chef

Beverly Kim is actually my friend Lee Ann Kim’s sister.  She was kind enough to take the time out of her busy schedule and answer a few questions.

  1. What’s your favorite snack?  Ramen noodles with hot dogs and egg.
  2. Do you have any cooking rituals?  I don’t really have a specific ritual because I try to be spontaneous when cooking.
  3. What are the best gadgets for a home cook? Vitamix Blender, Kitchen Aid Mixer, Food Processor, Microplane, Japanese Mandolin, and a pressure cooker.
  4. Favorite places to eat in Chicago? Lao Szechuan, Tank Noodle, Lula Cafe, Urban Belly, Telegraph, Ruxbin.
  5. Is there a story behind your tattoo?   It’s a phoenix rising from the ashes.  It helps remind me that I will grow stronger from any times of struggle or adversity.

Even though she packed her knives a few episodes ago, Beverly is the reigning champion on “Last Chance Kitchen” so she still has a chance to come back for the finals!  Good luck, Beverly – I’m rooting for you!

    I’m dying to know the outcome of the Last Chance Kitchen!! I’m so rooting for her too. I’ve never seen one person so constantly picked on during Top Chef and Beverly never lost her cool. AMAZING!! She is the epitome of grace under pressure.

    Also surprised at the ignorance of fellow chefs of the breadth of Asian cuisine. They remark as if it is one dish…the same everywhere. It’s so idiotic.

    Glad to hear that Bev still enjoys the same snack from elementary school… I think it was inspired by my dad’s cooking (then again, it’s the only dish he knows) 🙂

    Hi Lynn 🙂 I liked Bev. She held her head high through the entire process, and came out looking great in the end. And I especially like her bartending on Andy’s Show. She’s so cute and sweet. Much luck to her (and you too)! I’m not sure who I want to win Top Chef this season — I liked a lot of Chefs this year. Wish they would recruit us as Blogger Judges!!! 🙂
