Lisa and I didn’t get together this morning to practice our pageant speeches…

…nor to attend an 80′s Flashdance Tribute…

…we were celebrating the 1-year Anniversary of our blog, Thick Dumpling Skin!!!

Every month, Foodbuzz features 24 blogger meals around the globe over 24 hours. When I found out I was chosen for January’s 24×24 I decided to throw a TDS birthday party at Bao Dim Sum House.

I consulted with Howard (the General Manager) all week for a dumpling feast…

…loved the variety on their menu – a true reflection of what TDS is about – our diversity and uniqueness!
We had Chicken Potstickers…

…Shrimp and Pork Shumai…

…Shrimp Har Gow…

…Pork Soup dumplings…

…Mixed Veggies…

…Mushroom…

…and Crispy Crab balls:

Those came with a sweet, sticky sauce – I used some, but mostly dipped my bites in a mustard/chili/soy/vinegar mixture

Aside from the various dumplings, we also ate our veggies – String Beans…

…Pea Shoots…

…Baby Bok Choy…

…and Chinese Broccoli

It was A LOT of food!

Here’s everything that I inhaled…

…then I made a little speech before our “birthday cake.”
Milk Buns…

…and Egg Tarts

As we say on “Thick Dumpling Skin,” it’s what’s on the inside that counts – this creamy filling was phenomenal!

I enjoyed several bites of dessert:

Stuffed as dumplings, we headed outside for pictures

(Got a little distracted by Lisa and her sister Angel’s shoes)

Also there – Phil Yu (a.k.a. Angry Asian Man) and his wife Joanna, TDS contributor Andrea Lwin, and my Saving Face/Nice Girls Crew co-star Michelle

Cheers, Thick Dumpling Skin! We hope you keep growing and growing.

Awesome. Big congrats to you and Lisa!
I’m feeling pretty jealous of Lisa’s kick ass do…and that meal.
Okay, I’ve got to admit that I’m so incredibly envious of your meal. I’ve been hunting for a great Dim Sum place in Montreal and have yet to find a winner. Sigh, dim sum is my happy food.
but you have montreal bagels!!! let’s trade for a weekend…
Yay for one year! i am so glad you ladies started this site! I can’t wait to see what this next year brings~
thanks melissa – esp. for contributing to our first year too!

ahh i wish I had a cool restaurant like that close to me. I miss great Chinese food!
OMG how awesome! I proposed something similar to Foodbuzz 24×24 but I didn’t get chosen. I’m glad you guys did…for all the work you’ve all contributed, the gang deserves a dim sum treat!
Thanks Sophia! I had never been picked for 24×24 before so we were psyched.

Oh my. First, I need about 3456678 of those shumai and a not terrible dim sum place closer to my house. Second, thank you for Thick Dumpling Skin and the incredible work you and Lisa are doing. I do some volunteer work with NEDA and was so glad to have your voices in the mix at the conference both on the panel and at the teen summit. Cheers on your one year anniversary, here’s to many more!
Thanks so much Laura!

Congratulations on your anniversary! Those dumplings look amazing.
What an amazing meal!! Congrats on the anniversary
Sorry I’m late on this. I’ve always enjoyed your site, happy anniversary, I hope there are many more to come
thank you, rodzilla!!!
What does the creamy insides of the milk buns taste like? They look delish and remind me of haupia malasadas…fried exterior replaced with baked(?) bun.
They taste…sweet and creamy?
