Sunday Sampling

I spent my first Sunday of 2012 doing what I love the most – at the Larchmont Farmer’s Market, eating free samples

The strawberries are still super sweet…

…as are the persimmons (FYI – don’t combine them with seafood! I know somebody who got very sick recently eating them with shrimp.)

Aside from tons of fruit, we also tried sweets from Kringlela

(I had the pecan)

Some Maple Onion Confit…

…and Mediterranean Tapenade from Domenico’s Foods

Candied Ginger…

peach scone

…several types of hummus

…and a few sugared almonds

My partner in crime – Angela!

She bought her first cheremoya – a “custard apple” that I mention in this food host video I made a while back!

Back home I nibbled on even more fruit

Off to judge the Onigiri ContestWhat are you doing on your first weekend of the year?

Doggone It

Shit happens.

We weren’t the ones responsible for these signs – always carry biobags on our walks!!!

Apparently, the dogs aren’t the only ones in our ‘hood having bathroom issues

Never got hungry last night after our Umami brunch, so I skipped straight ahead to dessert

…right before a movie with friends

Julius did not come with us…

…nor was there any cake in his Buster Food Cube

FYI Meryl Streep’s performance is incredible

I’m pretty sure she could convincingly play a dog if given the opportunity.

The Onigiri Festival is today – if you’re there, come say hello! I’ll be judging the entries at 3pm with LA Times food editor Russ Parsons and Sunny Blue shop owner Keiko Nakashima.
