Last night I was invited to a media dinner sponsored by OpenSky at Cru in Silver Lake

I’ve been wanting to try this vegan restaurant for years – it’s tiny; our party took up 1/2 the space!

First to arrive – plenty of time to check out the menu…

…and the amazing bathroom ceiling!!!

Soon after, other people started showing up, including my dear buddy Leslie…

…and a blogger I’ve been trying to meet up with for months – Bess!

The man of the hour was one of OpenSky’s curators, Brendan Brazier. I was already familiar with him because Christy was obsessed with his book, so it was cool to pick his brain about exercise and nutrition. But even more interesting was talking to him about the similarities between actors and athletes.

Onto the food! Cru’s menu is almost entirely raw; we started off by sharing all the appetizers…
Mezze Platter

Rubbed Garlicky Kale, Tunisian Apple Beet Salad, Fig Pate, Cucumber Tztziki, Olives, and Cashew Cheese – with Flax and Pumpkin Seed Crackers

I tried a piece of the Bruschetta – more cashew cheese with tomato, capers, basil, red bell peppers, sun dried tomatoes, chive oil, served on a sunflower seed and kabocha squash flatbread

One of the Nachos – Dehydrated flax and corn chips, pumpkin seed chorizo, guac, salsa, vegan nacho cheese and cashew coconut sour cream

I had two spring rolls…

…and an amuse-bouche as well

For my entree I ordered one of the few cooked menu items – quinoa risotto with asparagus and mushrooms

Wound up polishing off the salad, and taking most of it home for Abe…

…I also traded bites with other peeps at the table – Cru Pizza…

…mac n cheese (the other only non-raw option)…

…and a raw veggie lasagna made of zucchini, pesto, shrooms, cashew cheese, and coconut cream

For dessert I had a bite of the Banana Cream…

…and Chocolate Mousse pies

What a delicious, fun evening…

…woke up STILL totally stuffed this morning. Who says raw food isn’t filling?!?

Looks like a delicious blast! So so bummed I couldn’t make it
Delicious food, wonderful company…who could ask for more? I’m still stuffed as well, though I’m sure I could make room for more bites of the banana creme pie!
I’ve been wanting to try Cru!! If you’re ever down in the OC, Au Lac is also another restaurant with some really good raw options.
how was that banana cream?
you have no idea how much i LOVE these kinds of places.
we have zero vegan and zero raw food places here
so i have to live thru you.
