Cafe Adelaide – New Orleans

Our last night in The Big Easy!

Since our large group couldn’t make it all the way to Commander’s Palace, we trekked across the street through the Loews Hotel instead…

…to its sister restaurant, Cafe Adelaide.

(full name – “And the Swizzle Stick Bar”)

Not too many folks at 6pm…

…but a perfect time for our niece! This place really knows how to treat kids – they also brought her a special drink in a plastic cup/straw and crayons/coloring book…

…she also loved their bread, which came in paper bags. I only had a bite of mine and gave her the rest.

Wasn’t feeling terribly hungry from my catfish po’ boy lunch so I just ordered two small sides:

Garlic Wilted Spinach

Sweet Potato Hash

The theme of this trip has been sharing! I nibbled on 3 little plates of everyone else’s orders…

Shrimp and Tasso Corndogs – essentially shrimp dipped in andouille corn dog batter with 5 pepper jelly and hot sauce butter.

This was my favorite – I even dug the pickled okra (the one veggie I’m not a big fan of)

Spinach salad with bourbon spiced pecans, goat cheese, and molasses vinaigrette

Shrimp Remoulade (SPICY) with a side of Crab Salad

More salad – a chopped one with romaine, bacon, tomato, eggs, parmesan, toasted brioche croutons, and black pepper-buttermilk dressing

Bacon Crusted Oysters – with tomatoes, arugula, charred tomato mayo, on top of warm french bread

Fries – super duper salty ones

Roasted Potato Flatbread with cheese and arugula

There was a turtle soup, too – but I had a pet tortoise in college and couldn’t quite bring myself to try it.

One clear choice for dessert –

Their White Chocolate Biscuit Pudding has been on my radar ever since it was featured on Esquire’s “Best Desserts of 2011” list…

…so we ordered two of them!

Ice cream with root beer caramel and fried nuts?!? So genius!!!

I ate a little more than 1/3 of our bowl, plus the scraped up buttermilk biscuit bits

Such a special evening – service was outstanding!

I loved that they gave me my choice of herbal tea, too

The rest of the family has a much earlier flight, so Abe and I still have a little more NOLA left ahead…but it’s never as much fun without the whole gang!

You have eaten SO well! New Orleans has always been on my list, but these posts have made it catapult to the top.

I am convinced that I need to do a NOLA Christmas one of these years. All of the food you’ve posted looks drool-worthy. 🙂
