One second I’m in Los Angeles…
…munching on a boring fat-free blueberry muffin from Starbucks…
…then BAM!!! I’m in New Orleans, with Abe’s entire family, feasting at Emeril’s flagship restaurant.
Couldn’t believe we scored a last-minute table for seven!
The famous chef wasn’t there, but I did spot him in the Ladies Room
This place was FANCY – the kind where there’s a different server for everything, and they fold your napkins if you get up. They even offer you BLACK NAPKINS to match your black jeans so the white ones don’t leave lint!!!
We showed up with a baby, in our jeans (not all of them black), and they didn’t bat an eyelash.
Each of us began with a potato roll and corn muffin…
…Lobster Poutine to share for the table…
…I grew up in Jersey, where cheese fries and gravy were an everyday snack. Needless to say, this upscale version was far from ordinary.
For my main entree, the Gumbo of the Day – a chicken and andouille sausage
They pour it into the bowl – very rich, very flavorful
Traded bites with my father-in-law’s Angel Hair Pasta in Creole Cream Sauce
But mostly I stole a buncha bites from Abe’s vegetarian entree…
…not even on the menu – they just make it up on the fly!
Last night’s compilation was haricots verts with eggplant/squash, roasted sweet potato, and an onion ring stuffed with black eyed peas. Incredible!
After we were brought fresh glasses of ice water (I’ve never heard of such a thing?!?) the last course was served.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie with Oreo Crust and Caramel Sauce…
…Warm Sticky Toffee Pecan Pudding Cake with Satsuma Toffee Sauce…
…Banana Cream Pie with Graham Cracker Crust, Caramel Sauce, and Chocolate Shavings (here’s the recipe)
No words. A lot of “Mmmm’s.”
Sipped on a pot of hand-blended Organic Peppermint and Spearmint Tea too.
We brought some sweets back to the hotel, but each polished off an additional bite of Sticky Toffee Pudding, since there was melting vanilla ice cream on top.
Bam! And just like that, we’re back in The Big Easy, baby!

Forgot you were going to NO~ As a vegetarian, I love it when a restaurant will meet my food needs without a bat of an eye. Abe’s plate looks and sounds delicious! Have a wonderful time and Merry Christmas!
