Shaved Ice at The Yellow House Cafe

Korean Shaved Ice (Pat Bing Too) at The Yellow House Cafe in Koreatown, Los Angeles.

Not just one, but TWO blogger dates today! Β First up – the lovely Erin at Larchmont Bungalow…

…then Sophia at The Yellow House Cafe…

…which is exactly that:

Looks a bit out of place in the midst of Koreatown, and is equally quirky inside.

Is this grandma’s house…

…a hospital gift shop…

…or a relaxing hotel patio?

Whatever The Yellow House Cafe is, it has this:

IMG_3559.JPG

Pat Bing Soo, a.k.a. Korean Shaved Ice! I’d been reading so much about these on Sophia’s blog and was very curious….

IMG_3556.JPG

…we both ordered small Red Beans, and took lots of pictures!

Aside from the sweet adzuki beans and shaved ice, there was banana, mango, strawberry, kiwi…

….and a mini sundae sitting on top – vanilla ice cream, whipped cream + maraschino cherry!

More randomness – Fruity Pebbles, Mochi balls, a sugar wafer cookie, sweetened condensed milk, and ground cereal powder:

It melts into the most delicious dessert soup!

I can see why Sophia has been eating these weekly lately – they’re the perfect summer meal! (Yes, that was brunch.)

If you’re in the Cape Cod area, I just found out that Surrogate Valentine is playing in Woods Hole tonight. As in less than 30 minutes!!!!

GAH I want to try Korean shaved ice! It reminds me a little of one of my favorite Filipino desserts, halo halo. Looks like you’ve had a fun day!

Whoa, Lynn, you blog super fast! Tee hee, I didn’t realize I was in your shots.

I count pat bing soo more as a snack, but you’re right– the perfect summer meal because it’s got nutrients (fruits), calcium (condensed milk and ice cream), healthy carbs (mochi bits and fruity pebbles) and protein (sweet bean paste). Seriously the healthiest, most awesome summer “meal” ever! πŸ˜€

So jealous! I loved shaved ice! You should try Shau May (sp?) shaved ice in Monterey Park. It’s a HUGE mountain of ice with condensed milk and 3 toppings I think for about 3.25 (it used to be cheaper!) πŸ˜›

Wow, cool- I know in Japan they use Azuki beans for some of their ice creams and this looks amazing!! I can’t keep up with all your meetups!

Wow, that looks delicious! I never got the whole shaved ice thing (I kept thinking snow-cone), but THAT I would enjoy πŸ™‚ And sweet beans????
