Power Pancake Lunch

June 13, 2011

in gluten free, restaurant, salads, vegan

My schedule this week is getting bonkers!!! I spent all morning cleaning, then hopped in the car and drove to the Valley for a lunch meeting at Hugo’s

I’ve been to the West Hollywood restaurant a few times, but this was my first time at the Studio City location

It was also my first time eating there when they actually serve their famous pancakes (before 4pm)

My dining companion Jennifer is gluten-free, and we decided to share:

When we couldn’t decide between all the pancake options, the waiter told us we could split the order!

Both were STELLAR – thick, fluffy, moist, and full of flavor. This was the roasted pineapple coconut…

…we both preferred the Almond Energy one a little bit more:

(Next time, I’m going to try the Pumpkin!)

We also shared a large order of the Beet Quinoa Salad – I had my half without Gorgonzola Cheese so they brought it out on the side

This was an amazing dish as well – sweet cooked beets, scallions, and fresh herbs tossed with walnuts in a sherry vinaigrette. The finely chopped veggies made all the difference!

I believe everything I ate was vegan too? (Speaking of which, don’t forget to enter the Brody’s Bakery Cupcake Giveaway!!!)

Well, vegan depending on what was in those pancakes… usually there is egg, or some kind of dairy in them (e.g., buttermilk)????

The beet/quinoa salad sounds amazing. I think I’ll have to make a version of it soon!

I was just watching Entourage this morning and they kept saying The Valley. I was wondering what that meant but now I don’t even care. All I know is I want to go there and eat those pancakes! :)

It’s such a tragedy that places don’t sell pancakes at night. I always want them for dinner, not breakfast or lunch!!

Oh the pancakes looks so good! I have never tried quinoa, but it’s on my list to try! I love beets so that must be a good combination!

I love Hugo’s! Their pozole and their very green casserole are AMAZING!

I would get it without the cheese too … I hate blue cheese!
