Graduation Days

June 6, 2011

in dessert, drinks, party, salads, sandwich

Abe and I have been together for 14 years, so I’ve watched all of his cousins grow up before my eyes. They’re all graduating now – last night we celebrated the first one – little Noah is going off to college!!!

Been saving this jar that Wild Hibiscus sent for a special occasion like this…

IMG_7896.JPG

…you place an edible flower + some syrup in a glass and add a sparkling beverage (this was Prosecco)

IMG_7902.JPG

The bubbles gently open the Hibiscus:

I didn’t taste any, but the general verdict was, “Uh, what’s this thing in my glass?!?”

To eat, there was catering from one of my favorite places, Mendocino Farms!!!

Along with an array of their wonderful sandwiches

…a Strawberry and Cheese salad…

….Penne Pesto with Spinach and Cherry Tomato:

I tried one of the appetizer offerings – Apple, Goat Cheese, and Preserves on Crostini…

IMG_7906.JPG

….then started filling my plate!

IMG_7915.JPG

To start – half of two sandwiches – Peanut Butter, Banana, and Apple + Proscuitto and Roasted Chicken

IMG_7913.JPG

Can you say flava?!? This is my favorite way to eat – samples!

IMG_7909.JPG

I also tried the Curry Chicken Salad and Turkey Cranberry with Herb Aioli

IMG_7922.JPG IMG_7923.JPG

Oh, and a taste of Abe’s Tomato Caprese too :)

IMG_7919.JPG

My next small bite came a little while later, after we had digested some.

IMG_7933.JPG

Our cousin Rachel is gluten-free and so was this chocolate cupcake from Whole Foods, though you really couldn’t tell.

The main attraction:

IMG_7930.JPG

Strawberry Cheesecake…

IMG_7934.JPG

…from The Cheesecake Factory! I’ve actually never tried it before, and I now understand why an entire chain is named after this stuff…

IMG_7936.JPG

…maybe some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had? The consistency isn’t as dense as most versions – almost as light and fluffy as the whipped cream!

One graduation celebration down – next up is Maya’s!!!

Wow this catering place looks gooooood! I have never tried strawberry cheese salad and I must try to cook at home!

That cheesecake looks yummy, and adorable–the amount of whipped cream and strawberries on it is disproportionate! I tried their red velvet cheesecake after my first time (also strawberry) and love it so much more!

For extra decadence, try the Red Velvet Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory. “Sinful” isn’t a strong enough word – it’s just pure SIN, and SIN never tasted so good! ;-)
