I’ll Tell You What’s Playing at the Roxie

acting - bakeries/cafes/dessert places - sandwich - snacks - soup/stew

Here’s part two of yesterday’s shoot – probably our most challenging one yet!

IMG_5495.JPG

We filmed some scenes in a cab, which, as you can imagine, is not as simple as it seems. Lots of things are out of your control – the angle of the sun, traffic, no camera operator….

But even more unmanageable was filming in The Mission District at night! We returned to The Roxie for evening exterior shots, which wound up being much wackier than the day at the Farmers Market

…especially with the theater operating its normal business and people on the street getting drunker and drunker

IMG_5507.JPG

While we waited for it to get dark, I ate some Thai food – mostly veggies/tofu with some Fried Rice and Beef Pad See Ew

Orange produce

Once we started filming there was a lot of stop and go. I waited in the director’s car to stay outa the cold and commotion

Around 10pm a very sweet crew member made me some shrimp ramen noodles…

IMG_5509.JPG

…but I only wound up getting a few bites/sips in since I was called back on set right away. It lost heat quickly between takes

IMG_5512.JPG

Brrrrr!

IMG_5513.JPG

The closer we got to midnight, the crazier the street folks were getting. At one point we had our entire crew blocking off the sidewalk in a human chain like “Hands Across America.

Got the midnight munchies and snacked on the only things I could find – Newman’s Own Sweets and Bella Viva dried currants

More cookies with falafel chips

When we finally wrapped at 12:30am I was grateful to find this Raw Revolution bar in my bag and devoured it on the drive back to the hotel

Unfortunately the late bedtime did not equal sleeping in. Woke up at 6:00 am and my call today isn’t until 4pm, so I basically spent 5 hours tossing and turning in bed.

Finally, around 11am, I gave up on the hope of sleep and headed to a nearby coffeehouse to get some work done.

Wasn’t too hungry, so I started with some peppermint tea….

…but around 2pm I figured I should eat something since we’ll be having “lunch” on set around 8. I ordered the Soup and Sandwich Combo

IMG_5539.JPG

Really delicious and served piping hot, just the way I like it!

IMG_5535.JPG

Finished half the sandwich – the portabello, which was also vegan

The Little Bird Coffeehouse is a real gem! Totally saved me from going crazy this morning….

It’s gonna be another late night – only two more days left of filming “Yes We’re Open.”

What’s Playing at the Roxie?

acting - snacks

IMG_5454.JPG

What a day! It’s 1:30 in the morning as I post part one of Wednesday’s “Yes We’re Open” shoot. We spent the first half at The Roxie movie theater, surrounded by the smell of popcorn, which had been freshly popped for us that morning:

Parry’s character actually ate it during the scene…

IMG_5478.JPG

…mine just sipped on hot water

IMG_5472.JPG

But I did wind up sampling a few handfuls for breakfast – it was pretty good!

IMG_5483.JPG

IMG_5470.JPG

Similar to when we were shooting a TV set, we don’t look at or use the actual screen when filming

IMG_5456.JPG

Just a white board with lights pointed at it

IMG_5461.JPG

Parked crafts services atop the concession stand

IMG_5485.JPG

I brought the Foodzie box to share

IMG_5449.JPG

Some Cinnamon Almond granola, Ginger Molasses Cookie, and Plantain Chips with a clementine

IMG_5465.JPG

Bella Viva raw almonds + the plumpest raisins ever

IMG_5479.JPG

Rounded out my snacking session (the first of many) with a sampling of Newman’s Own Organics Cookies

That’s it for now….the work day was long from over and I’ll post a recap of the other 8 hours later. For now, it’s time to hit the hay!
