Today’s my day off – a.k.a. time to see my Bay Area Buddies!
First up was brunch with my college friend Shanti. We walked about a mile to a brunch place I had bookmarked to try.

Forgot about all these darn hills in San Francisco! I was definitely huffing and puffing.
Our journey took us into the heart of Chinatown…

…through Little Italy…

…to Mama’s on Washington Square, where a giant line had already formed:

The wait was going to be an hour. Epic fail.

We stumbled into the nearby Cafe Divine instead

There were yummy-sounding eggs and waffles on the menu…

…but somehow I had moved on from the idea of breakfast when I let go of Mama’s

I ordered the Arugula and Roasted Beet salad without goat cheese, but added chicken

Came with a side of focaccia, which I had one piece of

Dressing on the side too – though it was pretty thick so I just dunked my fork in between bites

Shanti gave me a sample of her “Bennies from Heaven”

Two poached eggs over smoked salmon and spinach, served on a house-baked cheddar scallion biscuit. Smothered with Hollandaise:

It was awesome. All eggs benedict should be served on biscuits!

My next date is coming up soon! Gotta go!

I don’t blame you for bailing on Mama’s. An hour is a long time. At least you ended up someplace good!
If you like asian desserts pastries, you must try Golden Gate Bakery on Grant Ave.

Especially their “dan ta” (egg tart)
Have a great time there!!
Sounds like a fun day off! I love focaccia!
Whoa, that must have been some place! Look at that line! I think I might have still waited, since I’m stubborn like that. ;p
I highly recommend trying to go to Mama’s again- if you get there early you can avoid the wait. I went there had had some of the best french toast!
I love SF! Despite the crazy lines for brunch. I don’t get it? There are a million amazing restaurants there. Why would people actually wait an hour??
I had to do the same thing a few months ago. I also went to Cafe Divine. yes…you must have the Dan Tat at Golden Gate Bakery on Grant Ave.
Wowza! I definitely would not have waited for an hour either!! I want to visit San Fran just for brunch
Mama’s always has a super long wait, although I remember it being delicious!
Looks like you found a fine replacement though
WHOA. a biscuit??? SOLD.
oh I remember the hills in SF….and that cafe sounds wonderful!!
Couldn’t help but notice how amazingly blue and beautiful that sky was in your first photo. Glad you had some time to meet up with your friend.
