A vegetarian lunch at The Stand Laguna Beach in Orange County, CA.
Our friend from the east coast, Shelby, is in the O.C. for a wedding so we left L.A. this morning to have lunch with her. We decided to visit The Stand in Laguna Beach.
That’s precisely what it is – an outdoor stand…
…only instead of the usual burgers and hot dogs you’d expect, it’s all vegan!
They can’t be more friendly, offering us a sample as we step up to the window. We each have a bite of the Chunky Cauliflower soup.
Abe and I split our orders. One Oriental Vegetable Burrito. I actually am not crazy about the title of this, but I would rather my food be labeled as “oriental” than myself.
It has steamed veggies, alfalfa sprouts, ginger tamari sauce.
We also get a Veggie Burger (this picture doesn’t do it justice – it is HUMONGOUS). We get it with the works. The soy patty comes with guacamole, alfalfa and sun sprouts, tomato, pickles, mustard, ketchup, mild salsa, and lemon herb dressing. Comes with a side of tortilla chips.
I can barely fit my mouth around the burger. Everything sorta fell out when I take my first bite, including a whole pickle!
Also try some of Shelby’s lentil soup (she got the soup/sandwich combo).
The food is actually just okay – reminds me of the meals from when I was a vegetarian as a teenager. Really fresh, but kinda bland. They have a lot of condiments, like this Crystal Hot Sauce, though, which helps.
Still, I really like the vibe of this place, and if I’m ever in the area again I’ll be back. There’s so much on the menu to try, and it’s dog friendly too!
After lunch we hang out a little bit at Shelby’s hotel. See those dots in the ocean?
Definitely heard some conversations reminiscent of the MTV show “Laguna Beach” in the parking lot. Traffic back is brutal! Once I get this post up it’s time to make dinner!
