Christy – Turkey burger

March 23, 2010

in restaurant

I have been having a craving for a turkey burger for over a week now. So tonight, I had to have one!

I had a commercial callback in Santa Monica this afternoon so I took Jeff with me and we went straight out to dinner afterwards. I wasn’t sure where to go, so I called my co-blogger and restaurant master, Lynn to get her advice.

She suggested The Counter which is a sort of design your own burger place. Neither of us had ever been there so it was perfect.

It wasn’t busy when we arrived so we got to pick our table. Here is a picture of the place

And the inside

The menu’s are a like a checklist – first you pick your type of burger (beef, chicken, turkey, veggie, etc), then the size, the cheese, the toppings, the sauce and the type of bun. All of the meet is grass fed, hormone free and humanely treated.

It is a really cool idea, but I must admit that I was so hungry, I was a little doubtful I would be able to put a combo together that would be good. That’s when you have an appreciation for what chef’s do – creating combos and seeing what happens. But the waiter assured me that if I didn’t like it, I could return it and they would make me a new one (that’s awesome).

I chose the turkey burger with garlic aioli, gruyere cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and pickles.

Jeff got a veggie burger (which is made from black beans, brown rice, corn, cranberries and some sort of green) with pickles, lettuce, brie cheese, roasted red peppers, tomato and I gave him some of my grilled onions.

Then we each got a side salad and split a side of sweet potato fries.

Can you believe that this is the small burger?!! There are two larger sizes. I was blown away. The burgers were awesome, the salad was really tasty for a side salad and the sweet potato fries were crispy. I was very pleased with the meal.

And I have to note too that the service was awesome. Everyone was so nice and helpful. That always makes dinner nice.

I am still full 3 hours later so I am sipping some tea and doing some stretching before bed.

Check out The Counter if you haven’t been there!

I would pay an arm and a leg for a burger like that out East. Grass fed and natural meat? Sign me up!

Mmm this burger looks insanely delicious! Gruyere cheese and sauteed onions are two of my favorite toppings! I wish I had a restaurant around here like that!

We have a location in my area- and I love the whole checklist idea though it does overwhelm me! That combo looks delicious! And I love their sweet potato fries and the delicious aioli it comes with :)

I love the make your own burger idea, and those sound pretty fantastic. But what happened to getting a turkey burger?

I would LOVE that place! I love when you can “build your own” and then have someone else make it! :)
