Christy – Ammo and Cookies

in product review, restaurant, vegan

Tonight Jeff and I had a date night and decided to try out the restaurant Ammo that is up the street from our place. We got an early reservation and decided to walk up to the restaurant in the warm weather.

Ammo uses mostly local, sustainable ingredients and they change their menu to reflect the seasons. I had heard great things about the restaurant but hadn’t been there before.

It is a cozy environment with booths and candles. We ordered two drinks – I got a sage martini. Sounds weird but it was really good. The sage was offset by lemon juice.

For dinner, we got a buckwheat fettucini with fig and pine nuts. It was flavored with something spicy too, but I am not sure what

And we got a spring vegetable ragout which had all kinds of vegetables and some ricotta cheese.

Both dishes had so much flavor. They felt almost like comfort food really because they were so rich.

I can’t believe we didn’t go to Ammo earlier. Definitely worth checking out if you live here in LA.

And when we got home, we had the perfect dessert – Michelle’s Cookies!!! Have you tried these?? They are my favorite cookies. Jeff and I discovered them about 6 months ago at Whole Foods. They are vegan and naturally sweetened. And if you get them on the day of the delivery, they are soft. These are by far my favorite cookies. I often recommend them to clients; in fact, they are the only cookies allowed for the Sky Fit Challengers.

My personal favorite flavor is the Chocolate Chip. They come in a bag of six. They are not inexpensive (about a dollar for each cookie). But in my opinion they are totally worth it.

At Erewhon, they have big cookies by Michelle and there is an oatmeal chocolate chip that is awesome too. This time, we are so lucky because Michelle sent us other flavors to review!! This one is Almond Poppyseed.

I could eat a few in one sitting but I grabbed one to eat as we watched our Tivo’d episode of Lost.

This flavor has a very strong almond flavor. And it was super soft and chewy. Mmm-mmm good!!

All around, my night for food was awesome. I am very pleased. Thanks Ammo and Michelle!!

Ammo sounds really fun and focused! I don’t even know that I could imagine buckwheat fettucinne. Is it just like regular?
