Lynn – Practice Makes…???

I decided to take a yoga class this morning.  I haven’t been to one in months so I chose Level One, which didn’t start til 9:30am; an hour before I had this:

Half a cantaloupe, eaten straight-up with a spoon.  Followed by 2 green pills and my multi.  For some reason I didn’t need my usual ginger chew.  Maybe because I had someplace to go?

You have to remove your shoes at the yoga studio, so I wore my special Havianas from South Africa, to prevent them from getting lost in a sea of black flip flops.

Aren’t they cute?  Wonderful memories of my safari trip there.

Class was uber slow and unchallenging, even for me – and I am pretty lazy and out of yoga shape.  But it was an hour and a half of pure relaxation.  When I got home I had Brekkie Brew Part Deux:

  • 1/2 cup kamut flakes, cooked in 3/4 cups water
  • 1 TB crushed raw walnuts
  • 2TB egg whites
  • A few dashes of turmeric, a generous pinch of salt and pepper

And the magic ingredient…

1 TB of Trader Joe’s Pineapple Salsa.

This was surprisingly delicious, for being so simple…

Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea and a ginger peanut chew.

I recently got an email, out of the blue, from my college piano teacher!  It was so nice to hear from her (it’s been more than a decade since I’ve spoken to her).  I felt inspired to play.

Usually my piano is a very expensive picture holder, but every once in a while I get a nice practice session in.

Here’s what I’m learning right now -

Debussy’s Clair de Lune – super duper famous piece.  I always wanted to play it.  Now I (sorta) can!

About 50 piano minutes later, I wasn’t too hungry but it was time to eat.  My two breakfasts held me over until 4pm!  But that’s kinda how I planned it, since I don’t think I’ll be having dinner til 9-ish, maybe later.

On Ezekiel Sesame Bread – Applegate Farms Natural Turkey Salami, 1/4 of an avocado, and Dijonnaise

With a few organic strawberries, 2 green pills, fish oil, and an orange Tootsie pop -

The reason I’m anticipating a late dinner is because I’m going to the premiere screening for my husband Abe’s documentary tonight – it’s part of a web series called “In Their Boots,” stories of issues that recent veterans and their families face.  Abe recently did an op-ed video for the NY Times, if you’re interested in seeing a preview of what tonight’s screening is about.

I couldn’t be prouder!  I’m skipping my acting class this week so I can attend.

Now I’m off to walk Julius, tidy up (we have a houseguest tonight), get ready for the premiere, and sit in LA Traffic!  I probably won’t get a chance to post til tomorrow since it’ll be late and we’ll have company….

Lynn – In Frozen Desserts We Trust

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Though since I don’t have a real job, I feel a little silly saying that….

Today’s breakfast and lunch were a lot like yesterday’s, so I didn’t bother taking pix.  I went to the gym in the morning and for some reason had a lot more trouble running this time so I did a walk/run combo.

Before I went to go do some errands, I locked myself out of the house.  Woops.

Luckily my landlady lives down the street and had a spare key.  I went to Whole Foods, where I spent more money on a single bag of groceries than I do on four at Trader Joe’s.  But I did get some goods I can’t get at TJ’s –

Quorn Chik’n Patties.  We had these for dinner – baked for 20 minutes in the toaster oven.

With Ezekiel bread, mustard, spinach, and frozen brussels sprouts (nuked and tossed with honey mustard dressing, salt, and pepper)

Abe and I were so excited to watch this tonight –

It was the Throwdown with Bobby Flay against the restaurant owner of Mama Testa Taqueria, where Abe and I ate last month in San Diego.

I won’t tell you who won…but you can watch for yourself this week – I believe the show is rerunning….

A red plum.  I like my plums firm.  Dunno why.

Then: fish oil, calcium, and ginger chew.

I was satisfied, but my mind kept thinking of my other Whole Foods purchases:

365-Brand Passion Fruit Sorbet and Stonyfield Farm’s Organic After Dark Chocolate Frozen Yogurt.

Ordinarily, I would say to myself, “You’re not hungry, so…no.”  But in light of The Special K Treatment’s Trust Yourself project, I decided to reevaluate.  Why was I depriving myself of something I wanted?  Afraid of gaining weight?  Leading to a binge?  No, I trust myself enough to know I can “handle” the “consequences” of “giving in” to my desires.

(Sorry for the obnoxious amount of air quotes.)

So I had a scoop of each, topped with some Zoe’s Granola.

Really really really really really really good stuff.

Another peanut ginger chew later and I’m feeling groovy.
